Nunavut, the largest and northernmost territory of Canada, is renowned for its stunning landscapes, rich indigenous culture, and vast wilderness. However, when people think of agriculture, Nunavut doesn't typically come to mind.


Despite the harsh Arctic climate and challenging conditions, innovative agricultural practices are beginning to take root in this unique part of Canada.

Growing Fresh Food Year-Round in Harsh Climates


Snow covers the ground for most of the year in Northern Canada, but greens are being produced year-round at ColdAcre Farms.


With other hazards also threatening the northern food supply, Tarek, CEO of ColdAcre Food Systems, and his team decided to find a solution to address food security in their community.


With the system they designed , they can provide fresh produce to their community with consistent yields every week and help other Northern communities design better food systems.

They bring fresh ideas and innovative practices, ensuring the sustainability and growth of the industry. There comes a time when the older generation hands over the reins, and with it, the opportunity arises for the next generation to make their mark.
