What is driving food prices in Canada?
Inflationary pressures have been steadily mounting, and its impact on farmers and food prices in Canada is increasingly evident. The Arrell Food Price Report's predictions of a 7% rise in food prices for 2022 were initially met with skepticism and described as “alarmist”, only to be surpassed by the actual price increase of 10.3%.
The 2023 Arrell Food Price report is forecasting another 5-7% increase in 2023.

You may have heard that the cost of producing food has increased tremendously over the past few years. Crucial inputs to food production such as fuel and fertilizer have skyrocketed in price and are only now beginning to decline. 2022 was labelled as the most expensive growing season in Canada's history. Intuitively, many believe that this rise in the cost to produce food is a large factor in recent food inflation, but that is not the case.

AI in Ag: How tech is making farms more efficient and sustainable

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been making big news across various industries as a disruptive technology that can change the way we work on a fundamental level, and agriculture is no exception. As technology advances, AI can play a pivotal role in transforming traditional farming practices.

From improving crop yields to streamlining livestock management, here are five ways AI is revolutionizing agriculture.
Highfield Regenerative Farm’s holistic approach to growing crops

For a decade, a 15 acre plot in Calgary’s Highfield neighbourhood was home to overgrown weeds and unauthorized dumping, but farmers Mike Dorion, Jack Goodwin, Jay Fish, and Jeremy Zoller knew it could be more. Learning practices from Indigenous peoples across Canada, the four friends focused on enhancing the natural environment through regenerative agriculture to create an urban farm. With their help, the land get could get back to doing what it does best: providing for the community.
The Vital Role of Alberta’s grasslands: Carbon Sequestration, Cattle Ranching, and Conservation

Did you know that one of Canada's most endangered ecosystems is right here in Alberta? Sadly, urbanization, farming, and other human activities have already caused the loss of 74% of Canadian grasslands. In this article, we'll explore why Alberta's grasslands are so important, the challenges they face, and how cattle ranching can contribute to environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.

Let's start by understanding what native grasslands are. They are naturally occurring ecosystems dominated by indigenous grass species. These grasslands provide a home and food source for a diverse range of animals and plants, forming a vital part of the food chain. Moreover, the deep root systems of grasses play a crucial role in carbon sequestration, which helps combat climate change and maintain a healthy ecosystem.
