Rector's Reflection
St. John's Church, Lafayette Square
Holy Week
March 31, 2021
Dear St. John's Community,

This is a Holy Week unlike any that has come before, or any that will come again. We are making the most of every opportunity, but to be a church in dramatically hybrid times comes with its challenges!

Sadly, we have had many more people sign up to attend services in the church on Easter Sunday than we can fit.

What we are doing in response is greatly enhancing our 3pm outdoor gatherings.

The service at the National Cathedral's Amphitheater is being turned into a full Easter service. We will have a celebration of the Eucharist, with brass and singing (both of which are newly allowed for outdoors).

We will also have a shorter service at Virginia Theological Seminary, which will be a bit more casual and perfect for families with an Easter egg hunt to follow!

You will need to sign in with an usher when you arrive agreeing to our St. John's Church Regathering Covenant, but you do not need to pre-register. Maps and other information are below:

I also encourage you to experience the following offerings online:

  • Tonight at 6pm our Holy Week concert premiers!

  • Tomorrow at 7pm is Maundy Thursday.

  • Friday at 12pm is Good Friday.

  • The Easter Morning Service will be viewable at 11am.

You'll find these offerings on Facebook, and on our website's worship page. They will be available later (and perpetually) on our YouTube page as well.

Finally, in order to sign up for worshiping in person on Sunday the 11th, please click on this link, or call 202-347-8766. We will have two services, one at 9am and one at 11am. The deadline to register is Tuesday at midnight.

I look forward to seeing you, either online or in person soon! And I wish you a blessed Holy Week.

God's peace,
Rob+
