Some sad news and some good news
To our Gales Creek Camp family:

We hope you've found a rhythm during this time, that you've stayed safe, and that you've grown in some positive way from this experience. We've been thinking of you constantly as we considered how all this will affect the summer camp season.

Our planning team has been meeting regularly to reassess the situation around COVID-19, and we've approached every challenge with creativity and an overarching goal to make camp happen.

Unfortunately, we are heartbroken to announce, due to the risk to our campers and staff, and due to the shortages in medical supplies and volunteer medical support, we will not be able to hold regular camp this year. All sessions of Gales Creek Camp are cancelled for 2020.

This was an incredibly difficult decision for our board and staff to make. Many of our fellow diabetes camps across the country have done the same.

The GOOD news:

This doesn't mean we're giving up! Our talented camp staff are already hard at work creating a different kind of summer like no other! We still want to bring you camp this summer, and we want you to connect with all your GCC role models and besties.

You'll get a Camp Kit in the mail, which will include your summer camp t-shirt, a Camp Field Guide , and some other surprises. It's everything you need to join us virtually during your camp week.

We know it's a tough time all around, and we know you need camp, so we're making this program totally free to campers.

We'll also be continuously monitoring the situation, and if it does become possible to bring people out to camp, even for a day or a weekend, we'll keep those options open. We're even working on ways we might be able to physically bring camp to you! Gales Creek Camp-on-the-Road? Anything is possible.
If you've already made payments for camp this year

Please click here to let us know how you would like us to process any payments you've already made for 2020. You have three options:

  1. A credit to your account. You can use it for your camp fees in 2021.
  2. A full refund. This will be processed in the same form as your payment. If you paid by credit card, your card will be refunded. If you paid by check, a check will be issued to you.
  3. Or, if you are able, you can choose to donate whatever you've paid to Gales Creek Camp, which will help fund the Camp-at-Home program.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out here .

Are you able to help Gales Creek Camp make this happen?
Even though we can't have camp AT CAMP this year, we're still committed to our mission to support and connect kids and families who live with type 1 diabetes. We've got our creative engines humming with ideas to give our kiddos a great summer, despite the situation with COVID-19.

We're planning to send our campers a Camp-at-Home Kit and connect with them virtually during their camp week. It's the next best thing to camp!

Your financial support will make it possible to provide unique summer programming to our campers and families.

CANCELLED GCC Fest, an outdoor music festival celebrating the T1D community
We are sad to announce that this first-ever awesome event is cancelled for this year. We'll definitely try again next year!
CANCELLED Camp Cleanup Day and Open House is May 30, 2020
As you might have guessed, we are also cancelling this year's Camp Cleanup and Open House Day. It's still not safe to bring people to camp. If it does become possible later in the summer, we'll still need the help keeping camp beautiful! We'll let you know.
MAYBE? Adult Camp Retreat is August 29-30, 2020
There's still a chance!

While anything is possible these days, we remain cautiously optimistic that we will still be able to do this event on the last weekend of August. One thing is certain: we will still need to raise the funds! This may be a virtual camp, too, but we'll wait and see.
Some detailed recommendations from the biggest names in type 1 diabetes
This may be what you've been looking for. JDRF and Beyond Type 1 joined forces to cut through the noise and create some recommendations just for people with diabetes. There's also an interview with a guy with type 1 who had and is now recovered from COVID-19.
