Garbage collection in much of West County (and around the Bay Area) is not occurring due to a continuing labor dispute between Republic Services and its workers at its Stockton landfill facility.
It is not known when service will resume.
I have been in contact with Republic and the Teamsters (representing workers) to encourage a quick resolution that results in fair wages for workers.
Contra Costa County and several cities have sent Republic a Notice of Breach of the Franchise Agreement with them.
Contra Costa Health Services has called a meeting of Bay Area Health Officers to discuss what actions can legally be taken to address any public health impacts that occur.
The City of Richmond and my office have arranged for free dumpsters to be available at various locations this Saturday for residents and businesses to drop off their household garbage (no hazardous materials).
Those locations are:
- El Sobrante – Moose Lodge, 4660 Appian Way. (8 am to Noon)
- Tara Hills – Montara Bay Commuity Center, 2250 Tara Hills Dr. (off San Pablo Ave.) (8 am to Noon)
- Richmond Civic Center Parking Lot – 2400 Nevin Ave. (8 am to 3 pm)
- Richmond Fire Training Center – 3506 Cutting Blvd. (8 am to 3 pm)
- Richmond/El Sobrante – La Moine Park, 3530 Morningside Dr., Richmond (8 am to 3 pm)
You can also drop off up to 4 bags of trash for free at Republic’s Transfer Station at 1 Parr Blvd., Richmond (off the Parkway) on Monday to Friday 7 am to 5 pm, Saturday 9 am to 5 pm
Any extra trash can be placed in sturdy trash bags stored on your property to be placed next to your cart for free pickup once services resume.
