Idalia is expected to become a major hurricane before landfall Tuesday. Although it is not currently taking direct aim at Orange, Osceola or Seminole counties, our region will still be impacted. Heavy rains, wind gusts of 55 mph or higher, localized flooding and tornadoes are possible, and the hurricane's projected path may shift in the next 24 hours. As of now, the storm should reach our area overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.

Homeless shelters are expected to open between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday. No alcohol, illicit drugs or weapons allowed.
At this time, Orange County has announced it will open two emergency shelters for general use starting at 1 p.m. Tuesday:
- Barnett Park, 4801 W. Colonial Dr., Orlando
- South Econ Recreation Center, 3850 S. Econlockhatchee Trail, Orlando
Two additional Orange County emergency shelters will open for people with special medical needs. (Note: Those with special medical needs are urged to call 407-836-3111 ahead of time):
- Silver Star Recreation Center, 2801 N. Apopka Vineland Rd., Orlando

Goldenrod Recreation Center, 4863 N. Goldenrod Rd., Winter Park
Seminole County is expected to open a shelter but has not yet announced the location.
Osceola County does not plan to open an emergency shelter at this time.
An emergency shelter for registered sex offenders will open at the Orange County jail and perhaps other counties.
Lynx will provide free service along regularly scheduled routes once the county shelters open. Tell the driver you want to go to the nearest emergency weather shelter.
Please seek safe shelter as soon as possible Tuesday afternoon. LYNX bus service will not operate in winds exceeding 35 mph.
People unwilling or unable to seek shelter are strongly encouraged to evacuate low-lying, flood-prone areas and find barriers to avoid flying debris.
