Worcester Preparatory School Community,

As you may know, Governor Hogan recently announced that Maryland school campuses will remain closed through the completion of the current school year. Worcester Preparatory School will adhere to this guideline and continue our distance learning program until our last school day on June 5.

I know we all had hopes of returning to campus in the next few weeks, however it is important to consider the health and wellness of our entire community. By working together as a community now, we will hopefully reach our common goal of returning to more normalcy as quickly as possible.

Next week we will communicate detailed instructions outlining when and how fam ilies will be able to pick-up materials from lockers, personal items and medications.

In preparation for our students' return to the WPS campus in September, our Administrative Team will be working hard throughout the summer. We have created the Mallard Strong Task Force to Re-Open Campus in order to formulate policies and procedures revolving around safely opening our school including protocols for scheduling, physical distancing, health screening, daily cleaning/sanitizing, protective equipment, transportation, and the appropriate use of common areas. This group will work with AIMS and NAIS, while continuously reviewing information and recommendations from the MD Health Department, MD Department of Education and CDC.

As we prepare for the implementation of any mandates or guidelines from the Governor, here are some of the additional steps we are taking:

  • More than 20 additional foam hand-sanitizing stations will be added throughout the school, including placement by entrances, in hallways and common areas.

  • School cleaning protocol will continue to be increased with the safest, most effective products available. Electrostatic-sprayer sanitizing systems (which have been approved to combat the COVID-19 virus) have been purchased and will be used to widely disinfect surfaces and classrooms including daily cleaning of door handles, desks and chairs.

  • Dutton Bus Service has purchased equipment which will be used to sanitize buses every day and they will install a hand sanitizing station on each bus.

  • While we are collaborating with AIMS and NAIS, we will also be communicating with other independent schools on best practices and preparation.

We will continue to plan and develop policies to keep everyone safe and communicate our plan to our families throughout the summer. While the start of the school year may look different in some ways, we are very much looking forward to having our students back on campus in September.

Stay well,
Michael J. Grosso III, M.Ed.
