Next, with the Board’s full support, we have engaged a transition consultant, Rabbi David Wolfman, who will assist and advise the Committee and the Board. Rabbi Wolfman comes to us with excellent credentials and has advised other congregations through similar transitions. He has been an ordained Reform rabbi for over 35 years, served as the Director of the Reform Movement’s Commission on Rabbi – Congregational Relations, and later was the Reform Movement’s Specialist on Lay-Clergy Relations. He now specializes in managing organizational change and transition. Rabbi Wolfman is familiar with Washington Hebrew and with our clergy, including, in the past, providing occasional advice to Rabbi Shankman about her rabbinate.
Listening to Our Community
Working with the Board, we developed our overall transition plan, engaged a consultant, and selected the Transition Committee, led by WHC First Vice President Lewis Wiener. Our consultant started his research, and the next steps, detailed below, will give you, our members, myriad opportunities to share your thoughts and connect with the Committee, the Board, and each other.
Starting in a few weeks and continuing through the spring, we will facilitate small focus groups, in-person and virtually, at multiple locations and times so you can share your views and visions about our beloved Temple. We will also send surveys and provide an email address for you to share your feedback confidentially. Our next email to you about this process will provide dates and more details. The Committee and the Board want–and need–to hear from you!
The Board of Directors is committed to giving our Congregation time to reflect, share, and engage with each other. We want you to be active participants in fulfilling the sacred responsibility we have before us to benefit the community we are today and the one we aspire to be in the years to come.
