Hello Bishop Grimes Families,
It’s hard to believe, but Thanksgiving is just over two weeks away! The Bishop Grimes Student Council is sponsoring a non-perishable food drive and all food collected will be donated to the Inter-religious Food Consortium, which distributes food throughout Onondaga county. There is great need heading into and throughout the winter: hunger does not discriminate and affects all populations from the very young to the elderly, people with disabilities, and the working poor. Hunger and problems attributed to being hungry to increase. Due to the rising cost of gas, groceries and other essentials, people are finding it harder and harder to make ends meet.
We would like to do as much as we can to help, and have set a modest goal of collecting at least 1000 food items to donate to the Interreligious Food Consortium at our Thanksgiving Prayer Service. Students can bring in their food donations to Mr. Gregory in Room 253 until Friday, November 19.
I have spoken with the directors and they gave me a list of items that have been specifically requested by the area food banks that they supply. These also happen to be items that are not frequently donated. This holiday season the IFC particularly needs:
- Spaghetti Sauce
- Canned Tuna
- Canned Soups
- Canned Corn and Green Beans
- Canned Fruit
- Mayonnaise, Ketchup, and Mustard
- Pancake Mix
- Syrup
- Stovetop Stuffing
- Cake mixes/Brownie mixes/Frosting
- Please no beans, pasta or expired items
The need in our community continues to grow. Please know that whatever it may be, your donation will help us to carry through with our promise to make sure those who need emergency food receive it. We want to make sure that the services are provided to the most vulnerable in our community.
Sincerely,
Mr. Gregory
