Dear Windward community,

We are pleased to report that the search for our next Head of School is proceeding well and that we are on schedule. The search committee is comprised of trustees Elizabeth Crain, Jeffrey Goldenberg, Patty Wolff, as well as senior administrators Stephen Littell, Sandy Schwarz and Maureen Sweeney, all of whom have served the school for at least 15 years and thoroughly understand its programs.  

The committee has reviewed a significant number of applications from a diverse pool of candidates. We were fortunate to have the expertise of Mr. Littell, Ms. Schwarz and Ms. Sweeney, and as a result we were able to focus our attention on the candidates whose professional experience is most in sync with Windward’s teaching methodology.
Below is a brief description of the pool of applicants:
  • They represent a range of prior experience, including public school administrators and independent school administrators from both traditional schools and schools focused on learning disabilities.
  • Many hold PhDs or the equivalent and all have had significant teaching experience. 
  • The applicants hail from across the country.
In terms of the timeline and interview process, the committee met in-person with candidates in August; a small number of whom the committee will meet for a second time in September. After those interviews are complete, selected candidates will be invited to visit all three campuses in October.  

Working with our search consultants, the committee will continue to use its carefully designed and comprehensive review process in order to identify the best candidate to be our next Head of School. The candidate chosen as the finalist will be presented to members of the school community later in the fall.  We look forward to reporting more to you in the coming months. In the meantime, best wishes for the start of the 2018-19 school year.
