Although we have heard from most of you, we have not heard from everyone. Based on the feedback thus far, we did send a letter to Governor Mills asking her to lift the 14-day quarantine and open up all of Maine. If you have not responded to the survey, please do so. We need your valuable feedback as we determine how to move forward.

Re-Opening News

Governor Mills Confirms Retail Re-Opening Schedule, But Delays Dine-In Restaurant Service in Three Counties

Governor Mills announced that retailers in Cumberland, York, Androscoggin and Penobscot counties could reopen as planned starting on June 1st. They will be required to comply with the same retail and general business guidelines that were issued on May 8th. This is an option to re-open. Whether or not re-opening makes sense for you is an individual decision. The existing customer limits are still in effect.

Governor Mills also announced that dine-in restaurants in Cumberland, York and Androscoggin counties will be delayed beyond the June 1 target. She cited continued concern for increased community spread through that environment.

Windham - In response to the State’s social distancing regulations proposed for the reopening of restaurants and retail sales during the current Covid-19 pandemic, the Windham Town Council, working with the Planning and Code Enforcement Departments and the Windham Economic Development Corporation have streamlined the permitting process so Windham’s restaurants and retailers can adjust their customer service areas to better meet the new regulations. The approval for these temporary permits will be in force through October 2020.

The U.S. Small Business Administration has resumed accepting applications for the Paycheck Protection Program . If you have not yet applied for a PPP loan, please contact your local lender right away to see how these loans can help, and to start the application process.

WEDC COVID-19 Disaster Business Loan (Windham Only) - Designed to provide business continuation and recovery funds to existing Windham-based businesses to assist through these times of economic hardship . Applications now being accepted.

ME Counting on You!

The Maine State Chamber of Commerce launched a public awareness campaign. With Maine’s local and regional chambers, we are encouraging all Mainers to do their part to stop the spread of COVID-19. Maine employers are doing their part. We are counting on each and every Maine individual to also act safely and responsibly so Maine reopens successfully and we can all get back to business.

We have launched a website, www.MEcountingonYou.org , providing resources and messaging encouraging people to follow recommended health and safety guidelines and precautions, such as wearing a mask and gloves and practicing social distancing.

Printable files featuring the initiative’s logo and messages are on the site’s ‘ Resources ’ page for employers to consider placing in their establishments to provide reminders for employees, customers, and visitors. Also on the website is a ‘virtual bumper sticker’ linking to www.MEcountingonYou.org for organizations to place on your websites if you wish.

Additionally, we have produced a PSA that is expected to begin airing on cable television soon. We hope you will like and follow the initiative on Facebook , too, and consider using the hashtag #MECountingOnYou to share what your organization and employees are doing related to safety practices related to COVID-19.
