News from Mrs. Sims

We have had such an exciting STREAM week at SMM! STREAM stands for Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts, and Math. The whole school came together to study Force and Motion this week. We looked at forces that were both naturally occurring and man made. Students experimented with speed, direction, lift, inertia, and gravity. Where else can you spend your days building and testing racetracks, shooting catapults, blowing paint, and creating windmills? When else can you get credit for building a paper airplane, flipping water bottles, and making toy cars? STREAM week takes students and teachers to a new level of hands on learning, teamwork, and critical thinking. Thank you to all of you who help provide resources so that these weeks can be successful and fun. The best way to learn about anything is by doing!

May God Bless You and Your Family,
Wendy Sims
Leadership Skills

As a parent I want my children to be extremely successful and happy, believing that their level of happiness will be their level of success. In short, I want my kids to lead a good and fulfilling life. As the parent of two children I am constantly gaining a further realization at what a monumental task this is. What do I teach them? What experiences can I share to further their journey in life? What skills and attributes do I feel are important to compete and survive in this world? What and how do I instill positive leadership skills in my children?
You may click here to view a website I found while looking up leadership skills in children. I hope this helps support you as a parent.

The 6th graders are helping My Dog Eats First, a program which helps the homeless by providing pet food and supplies for their pets by collecting and distributing these items.

Donations should be brought to school on the
morning of Wednesday, March 27 and placed in the collection boxes at the school office. Please DO NOT bring the donated items prior to the collection day.

Suggested items include: dry or canned cat and dog food, basic cat litter (not the scoop type), dog treats, leashes, and collars. They are most in need of dog and cat food. Thank you for your generosity!
