Football Game Moved To Thursday
|
|
The Allen Eagle football game against Plano Senior High School has been moved to Thursday, September 20. The game, which was scheduled for Friday evening, has been moved due to the forecast of thunderstorms on Friday night. Allen’s game on September 7 was delayed for more than two hours due to bad weather and the September 14 game in Coppell was cancelled at halftime due to lightning and storms.
For the safety of fans, band and players, both teams have agreed to play the varsity game on Thursday evening starting at 7 p.m. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. The JV and freshman games originally scheduled for Thursday will be moved to a later date that will be announced.

Collin College Partnership Expands
Student Dual Credit Opportunities
|
Officials broke ground on the Collin College Technical Campus in Allen on September 7. The 340,000 sq. ft. campus will be built on State Highway 121 east of Exchange Parkway, and adjacent to the Allen ISD STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) Center. Under a partnership agreement, Allen ISD will fund construction of a 40,000 sq.ft dual credit wing on the campus.
The wing will exclusively house dual-credit programs for Allen High School students from 7:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. during the school year. Collin College will use the space when Allen High School classes are not in session, providing night and weekend educational opportunities for other students. In addition to general education courses, the Collin College Technical Campus will offer classes in automotive technology, construction trades, HVAC, health sciences, information technology, manufacturing, supply chain management, welding and other areas supporting local businesses and industries.
The Allen ISD Board of Trustees has approved an expenditure of $12 million for the classroom wing, which will include 15 classrooms, two computer labs, two science wet labs and breakout spaces for collaboration. The college will manage and maintain the wing as part of the Technical Campus. The Collin College Board of Trustees and Allen ISD Board of Trustees approved the 50-year agreement at separate meetings last November.
The Collin College Technical Campus is expected to be completed in the Fall of 2020.

Recruiters Attracted To AHS
|
More than 175 college recruiters participated in the annual AHS College Night on September 11. Once the doors opened, more than 1,000 parents and students poured in to learn about colleges as diverse as West Point and UC-Berkeley.
"Allen has quality students and runs a great event," according to Chris Ballard, an admissions counselor for Abilene Christian University. The university will draw about 300 students from the DFW area from among their 1,000 incoming freshmen.
"The caliber of students we see here is excellent," added Pete Dionne, a Purdue University alum recruiter who was working the fair with colleague Carolyn Searles. "Purdue wants this type of student and is looking to expand its out of state admissions."
Melissa Thomas, assistant director of admissions at Texas Tech University says Tech is a great fit for Allen students. "There are well prepared students coming from Allen and we are always successful at this fair. It's one of our top schools for recruiting."
