CAPS Meeting Schedule

Attending Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS) meetings in all CPD districts is a great way for residents to share feedback and engage with their local police officers. Recently, the CAPS office for the 18th Police District released a revised CAPS meeting schedule to include more in-person and virtual meetings. Residents can check their current beat here to find their appropriate meetings on the revised schedule below.


All meetings for 42nd Ward residents are also included in the weekly “CAPS Meetings” section of Reilly Reports. The schedule for the 1st District CAPS meetings remains unchanged, and there are no remaining meetings this month for the 1st or 18th District. Alderman Reilly Authorizes Menu Funds for Street Resurfacing in 42nd Ward

Alderman Reilly has authorized a portion of his Aldermanic Menu Funds to resurface several streets and alleys in the 42nd Ward. Resurfacing projects can take several weeks, but CDOT began work on the following projects on Wednesday, April 8:


  • Alley bounded by Delaware Place, Chestnut Street, Dearborn Street, and State Street
  • Park Drive, from Illinois Street to North Water Street
  • Lower Michigan Avenue, from Grand Avenue to Lower North Water Street
  • Harbor Drive, from Harbor Service Drive to Randolph Street


Additionally, Alderman Reilly has authorized Menu Funds for the following resurfacing projects that are awaiting permit approval by CDOT. Please stay tuned to Reilly Reports for updates on the following improvements that will soon be coming to the 42nd Ward:


  • Alley bounded by Franklin Street, Wells Street, Ontario Street, and Ohio Street
  • Alley bounded by Erie Street, Ontario Street, Franklin Street, and Wells Street
  • Alley bounded by Superior Street, Huron Street, Franklin Street, and Wells Street
  • Alley bounded by Chicago Avenue, Superior Street, Orleans Street, Franklin Street
  • Lower Michigan Avenue, from Lower Wacker Drive and Lower Stetson Avenue
  • South Water Street, from Stetson Avenue to Columbus Drive
  • Stetson Avenue, from Wacker Drive to Randolph Street
  • Randolph Street, from Beaubien Court to Columbus Drive
  • Randolph Street, from Field Boulevard to Harbor Drive

Citywide Earth Day Parks Clean-Up April 18

On Saturday, April 18, the Chicago Park District will host a citywide Earth Day Parks Clean-Up. The Park District invites residents from across Chicago to join thousands of their neighbors in caring for their local parks. This event serves as an opportunity for residents to connect with neighbors while supporting the green spaces that serve our communities. If you are interested in volunteering at the event next Saturday, please register here.


Volunteers may assist with litter pick-up, leaf raking, tree mulching, or general park beautification. Volunteers of all ages are welcome!

Street Sweeping Began April 1

Street Sweeping across Chicago began on Wednesday, April 1. Street Sweeping in the 42nd Ward runs April 1 - November 20. To see the sweeping schedule for your area, first find your sector on this map, then check your sector’s active sweeping days on the sweeping schedule.


Residents are also encouraged to track street sweepers in real time using the online Sweeper Tracker.

42nd Ward Traffic Closures & Construction Projects

Crane Lift:

777 N Michigan

From April 10 - 12, a crane lift will take place at 777 N Michigan Ave. Although this lift will be in the 2nd Ward, closures could affect residents nearby in the 42nd Ward. The following streets will be closed at the listed times:


  • Friday, April 10 at 11:59pm - Sunday, April 12 at 5am
  • Michigan Ave, between Superior St and Chicago Ave
  • Saturday, April 11, from 6am - 6pm
  • Chicago Ave, between Rush St and Mies Van Der Rohe Way
  • Sunday, April 12, from 7am - noon
  • Chicago Ave, between Rush St and Mies Van Der Rohe Way


During the closures, flaggers will be in place at the following intersections:


  • Chicago Ave & Rush St
  • Chicago Ave & Mies Van Der Rohe Way
  • Superior St & Michigan Ave
  • Pearson St & Michigan Ave


Barricades will be placed on Michigan Ave and Superior St. Pedestrian access to nearby residences and garages will be maintained. The crane will be fully disassembled by 5pm on Sunday, April 12, at which time any and all remaining street closures will be lifted.


1028 N Rush

On Monday, April 13, a crane lift will take place at 1028 N Rush. During the lift, Rush St, from Oak St to Bellevue St, will be closed on 4/13 from 9am - 4pm. During the closures, a detour route will be established using Oak St, State St, Bellevue St, and Rush St. "No Parking" signs will be posted on both sides of Rush St between Oak St and Bellevue, and pedestrian access on the west side of Rush St will be restricted near the lift site.


Public Assembly:

44 E Wacker

On Saturday, April 11, a public assembly will take place near 44 E Wacker Dr. Participants will begin assembling around 12:30pm and will disband around 3:30pm. The group plans to march between 44 E Wacker Dr and 68 E Wacker Dr. The City estimates an attendance of 75 people. No noise amplification devices will be employed.


State / Lake CTA Station Reconstruction

Lake St, State St and Wabash Ave, remains closed for the State / Lake CTA station reconstruction. Eastbound traffic will be directed to Dearborn St, Wacker Dr, and Wabash Ave to reach eastbound Lake St (click here for detour map). Lake St, from Dearborn St to State St, will be closed from 7am - 3pm. Traffic on State St is reduced to one lane in each direction between Wacker Dr and Randolph St. Starting April 13, southbound State St will be closed from Wacker Dr to Randolph St until the end of May. As a result, the following southbound CTA bus stops will be eliminated at State & Lake at 9am on Monday, April 13 until Friday, May 22:


#2 - Hyde Park Express, #6 – Jackson Park Express, #10 – Museum Science & Industry, #29 – State, #36 – Broadway, #62 – Archer, #146 – Inner Lake Shore/Michigan Express, #148 – Clarendon/Michigan Express.


Canal St Reconstruction

Overnight closures on Canal St, from Monroe to Adams, will continue to be in place until Saturday, April 11. Full overnight closures of Canal St will start no earlier than 8pm and end no later than 6am the following morning. Vehicles will be rerouted using Adams St, Jefferson St, and Monroe St. The closures remain on the east half of Canal St, between Adams and Madison, and parking on Canal, between Adams and Madison, will be prohibited. Two lanes on the west side of Canal St will be maintained for northbound traffic. These closures will last until late 2026. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained on the west side of Canal St, and access to driveways and commercial loading zones will be maintained. Construction noise may be louder than usual during this overnight work.


Bridge Closure:

The Wells Street Bridge will be closed overnight this weekend to conduct testing in advance of the summer boating season. Motorists and pedestrians will be redirected during the closure. The bridge will be closed from 11:59pm on Friday, April 11 - 5am on Sunday, April 12.


Bally's Utility Work - Grand Avenue

To prepare for the new permanent Bally's Casino, utility work will be completed on Grand Ave in River North. As a result of this construction, Grand Ave, between Union Ave and Kingsbury St, will be reduced to one lane in each direction. These closures will be in place until May 2026.


Lake Street Bascule Bridge Construction Update

Work continues on the Lake Street Bascule Bridge. The sidewalk on the southwest corner of the bridge will remain closed until summer 2026.The Lake Street Bascule Bridge is expected to re-open by spring 2028. For the detour map, click here (note: the Canal St detour listed is no longer in effect).


Bridge Construction Updates

As reported in a past Reilly Report, construction continues on several downtown bridges, and Alderman Reilly has expressed his frustration with CDOT for a lack of coordination and planning. The State Street Bridge is now open, and the approximate completion date for the Chicago Avenue Bridge is January 2027, and the Lake Street Bridge will be completed by spring 2028.
