BTHS STUDENT DRESS CODE

Welcome back, BTHS students!

In collaboration with parents, students, and faculty, the school remains committed to preparing young people for leadership and professional roles. We believe that members of the school community have a responsibility to dress in a manner which balances diversity of individual expression with a commitment to communal learning.

In light of this responsibility:

  • Clothing should not be disruptive to the educational process or be offensive to members of the Brooklyn Tech community both in and out of the classroom.
  • Clothing that degrades members of the school community in relation to the following actual or perceived characteristics is prohibited: race, color, religion, creed, ethnicity, national origin, alienage, citizenship status, age, marital status, partnership status, disability, sexual orientation, gender (sex), gender identity, economic status, predisposing genetic characteristics, or status as a victim of domestic violence or sexual offense.
  • Clothing may not contain images depicting or promoting alcohol, tobacco, drugs, obscenity or violence.
  • Clothing on the lower body must cover the genitalia and buttocks at all times.
  • Clothing on the upper body must cover chest, midriff, and back.
  • Undergarments may not be visible (bra straps are an exception.)
  • If wearing transparent clothing, chest, midriff, back, genitalia, buttocks, and undergarments must be covered by an opaque layer of clothing.
  • Face or head coverings for religious or medical purposes are allowed. Face or head coverings that intentionally obscure a student’s identity are prohibited.

If you have any questions, please reach out to me.

Be well,
