Lunch and Learn: Poetry of Psychological Resistance at Auschwitz: The Words of Krystyna Zywulska   Friday, January 8, 2021 12:00 PM While imprisoned in Auschwitz-Birkenau, Polish political prisoner Krystyna Zywulska wrote dozens of poems and songs which were shared among camp prisoners. Her writings paint a vivid picture life in Auschwitz and continue to shine a light on the complicated world of oppressors and the oppressed. The Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center invites you to join our lunch & learn with Dr. Barbara Milewski, Associate Professor of Music at Swarthmore College, where she will present her research on Krystyna Zywulska’s remarkable life and resistance poetry.    Click here to register.

Here All Along: A Jewish Journey in the White House with Sarah Hurwitz and Spertus

Monday, January 11, 2021 6:00 PM Sarah Hurwitz was a White House speechwriter from 2009 to 2017, first for President Barack Obama and then as chief speechwriter for First Lady Michelle Obama, where she crafted widely-acclaimed addresses—including her 2016 Democratic National Convention speech. A graduate of Harvard Law School, Hurwitz also worked on policy issues as a senior advisor to the White House Council on Women and Girls.  Cost: $18 To RSVP, click here.

Diamond is the founder and executive director of Jewish Records Indexing – Poland, founding president of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Montreal and the winner of the 2002 Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal of Canada for his work in establishing and directing JRI–Poland. Start a journey and learn about the past, present and future of the Jewish community in Morocco. This program is based on Dr. Roy Mittelman's forty years of traveling to, studying and teaching about the community. About the Instructor: Roy Mittelman is the director of the Jewish Studies Program at the City College of New York. Dr. Mittelman received his BA from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Masters and PhD in Religion from Temple University.
