How & Why Washington Health Alliance Is Leading the Way on Chronic Kidney Disease

Chronic kidney disease affects 1 in 7 American adults. Most don't know they have it, and Washington is no exception. This month, WHA released the state's first-ever CKD dashboard on Community Checkup: eight new claims-based measures, built by staff and vetted by Washington health plan leaders, clinicians, and others experts, now public for the first time.

The measures reflect two years of convening across Washington. Working with our members and local and national experts, we identified the gaps and helped build something the state has never had before.

The data is live on Community Checkup. A Washington Learning Collaborative is already turning it into action. See where the state stands.

WHA exists to drive these conversations. At May's forum, Washington's employers, health plans, and physicians and health systems wrestled with what AI means right now: scribes that give physicians time back, clinical tools that catch what a 15-minute visit misses, and a governance question nobody has fully answered yet.
