Preparing for a New Year of CPI
The CPI Team is currently deciding on topics for this project year. In early 2018, CPI administered a SUD Pv Field Survey to identify which TTA topics would be most beneficial to the SUD Pv field. Some responses included:
- Pv and specific substances (cannabis, opioids, tobacco, alcohol, etc.)
- Engaging youth, parents, and communities in SUD Pv
- Social determinants of health and health equity
- Pv data collection, needs assessment, and data-driven planning
- Trauma, trauma-informed services, and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
- Culturally and linguistically competent Pv and the Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) Standards
If your county or organization would like TTA on these Pv topics or others, we invite you to complete the CPI TA/Training Request Form.

New from the Surgeon General:
Facing Addiction in America: The Surgeon General's Spotlight on Opioids
Facing Addiction in America: The Surgeon General's Spotlight on Opioids calls for a cultural shift in the way Americans talk about the opioid crisis and re commends actions that can prevent and treat opioid misuse and promote recovery. The Spotlight on Opioids assembles opioid-related information from the Surgeon General's Report on Alcohol, Drugs, and Health (2016) into one document to better inform the general public. Although the Spotlight on Opioids does not include new scientific information, it provides the latest data on prevalence of substance use, opioid misuse, opioid use disorders, opioid overdoses, and related harms. The Spotlight on Opioids website also provides supplemental education and outreach materials.

The Substance Abuse Prevention Act reauthorizes the Drug-Free Communities Program and the Office of National Drug Control Policy, authorizes grants for substance abuse education and awareness raising, provides resources to support families impacted by substance abuse, and more. The Act was supported by the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) and other SUD-related organizations.
