November 2024 Parent Bulletin

Greetings, RSPA Families!

Can you believe it’s already November? As the temperature drops and leaves change, we know the fall season is here!

This month, our scholar scientists are working hard for our construction-themed Science Fair Night on Thursday, November 14th. Join us for hands-on family fun as we recognize our Science Fair winners and showcase our scholars' amazing projects. Our PTC will also have concessions for sale, and 21st Century and the Port City Chapter (TX) The Links, Incorporated will have an engaging STEM booth!

Fall Picture Day is Friday, November 8th. You can order photos on mylifetouch.com using the Picture Day ID: EVTGX8J8F. You’ll get free shipping if you order before midnight on Picture Day. Be sure to join us on Wednesday, November 20th, as our PreK and Kindergarten scholars showcase their alphabet and number lessons with a fun fashion show!

Scholars will also have opportunities to go on a few field experiences. The field experiences range from Dewberry Farm and Moody Gardens to NASA and Alley Theater. All field experiences are connected to the grade level TEKS and have pre-work and postwork for our scholars to make instructional connections.

At RSPA, we are dedicated to enhancing the skills of all scholars as we prepare for our upcoming campus-based assessments (CBA) from November 4th to 8th.

Our focus remains on TEKS-based activities and projects for our elementary scholars while improving skills in numeracy, reading, and critical thinking across all subject areas.

We also want to recognize our middle school scholars for their hard work during the first nine weeks. Way to go! To ensure continued student success, we encourage daily study habits and the completion of all homework assignments. Parents, please remember to check your scholar’s grades in the Parent Portal and engage in conversations about their school days. Together, let's maintain our momentum and finish the semester strong!

As a reminder, 98 is Great! Parents, we need our scholars at school. Our attendance rate has decreased for October, and we are turning this around with a new tardy policy and our Perfect Attendance & No Tardies Competition (see details below). When your scholar misses class, the achievement gap widens. Please ensure you send an excuse with the reason for the absence if your scholar misses a day. Remember, three tardies equal one absence, and scholars are marked absent after 9:45 AM

We’ve seen a rise in a few level-one behaviors. Our Behavior Specialists aim to promote positive behavior and reduce conflicts, helping our students feel safe and respected. We also expect our middle school scholars to serve as leaders and role models for the younger scholars. Parents, please partner with us by encouraging your scholars to give 100% daily and demonstrate CREW qualities.

Let's continue to progress and make great strides together. We hope you enjoy your family this Thanksgiving Break and, if you can, be a blessing to others; this is the season of giving!

PARENT ANNOUNCEMENTS & REMINDERS

New Tardy Policy!

Middle school scholars have 3 minutes to get to their next class. If they are late, they will sign in on the tardy sheet. After three tardies, they will receive Saturday detention. During Saturday detention, scholars will work on assignments and do community service around the campus.

Attendance

Did you know that one in four students are chronically absent from school? This means they miss at least 10% of the school year or approximately 18 days in most districts. Whoa (right, that's what we said).

While 18 days may not seem alarming, new data from the 2023-2024 school year reveals that an estimated 9.4 million students, or 19% of all students, were chronically absent last year—putting them at higher risk for academic failure, poverty, and dropping out of high school.

At RSPA, we’re working together to make sure all students show up and participate every day possible. Being in school supports students’ social, emotional, and physical well-being and allows them to learn and reach for their dreams.

Let’s show up together and stay in the habit of daily attendance! Remember, if we S.N.O.W., we can have SNOW on December 19th!

Science Fair

RSPA’s Science Fair is scheduled for Thursday, November 14th! This is a time for our scholars to apply their critical thinking skills. Visit the C&I web page to review the schedule of assignments and download your scholar's Science Fair packets. We can't wait to see our families there!

Hello, Parents and Guardians,

This is the month of Thankfulness. Let’s take some time and reflect on what we are thankful for.

This is also the month of Kindness. Kindness Day is on November 13th, and I will present social-emotional learning on kindness to promote positivity and growth within your scholars' day-to-day interactions. Having or showing a tender, considerate, and helpful nature, used especially by persons and their behavior, can go a long way. The goal is for our scholars to witness the benefits of this trait and share it with others.

Be sure to join me virtually for the next installment of Coffee with the Counselor on Thursday, November 7th, at 9:00 AM!

Best Regards,

Jassitte Richardson, M.Ed.
