October 2024 Parent Bulletin

Greetings, RSPA Families!

Fall is finally here! This month, we celebrate Red Ribbon Week, National School Lunch Week, Breast Cancer, Hispanic Heritage Culture Day, SLEDs, and more. During SLEDs, our PTC will sell concessions and host a Trunk-or-Treat for some family fall fun!

We are wrapping up the 1st nine weeks of school on October 9th. Make sure you check your scholar’s grades in the Parent Portal. Communicate any grading concerns to your scholar’s teacher and request a PTC if needed.

Students will begin taking District Benchmark Assessments on October 2nd in math, reading, science, and social studies. Please make sure your scholar is getting a great night's rest and arrives at school on time.

Let’s welcome our 24-25 PTC officers! Our PTC has some amazing events in store and is ready to serve our families this year. Please join our PTC by completing a membership form.

Scholars will receive fundraiser information for our Cherrydale Fundraiser. Profits from this fundraiser will help reduce your scholar’s activity fees. We will begin taking field experiences this month, so be on the lookout for permission slips and more information.

Our Hispanic Heritage Celebration will be a fun journey to various Hispanic countries by exploring their culture through food, music, and art. Please join us in celebrating this historic time in Hispanic culture on October 9th.

As always, please continue conversing with your scholars about the importance of self-control, leadership, and respect towards peers and adults. We want to foster an environment that supports learning and safety of all scholars and staff. Thank you for your support in reinforcing these values at home. Together, we can ensure a great experience for everyone involved.

Thank you for your continued support in making our campus a great place for student learning.

PARENT ANNOUNCEMENTS & REMINDERS

Detention Announcement:

We want to inform you that, beginning in October, our school will implement a detention system as part of our efforts to promote a positive and respectful learning environment.

Detentions will be assigned for behavior that disrupts the educational process or violates school policies. Our goal is to help students reflect on their choices and understand the importance of maintaining a respectful atmosphere for everyone.

Detentions will take place from 8:00-11:00 AM on designated Saturdays. Parents will be responsible for transportation. Students will receive prior notice of their assigned detention and will have the opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns with their teacher.

We appreciate your support in reinforcing the values of respect and responsibility within our school community. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our SCG (Behavioral) Department at (281) 458-4334 Ext. 413.

Attendance:

Did you know that one in four students are chronically absent from school? This means they miss at least 10% of the school year or approximately 18 days in most districts. Whoa (right, that's what we said).

While 18 days may not seem alarming, new data from the 2023-2024 school year reveals that an estimated 9.4 million students, or 19% of all students, were chronically absent last year—putting them at higher risk for academic failure, poverty, and dropping out of high school.

At RSPA, we’re working together to make sure all students show up and participate every day possible. Being in school supports students’ social, emotional, and physical well-being and allows them to learn and reach for their dreams.

Let’s show up together and stay in the habit of daily attendance! Remember, if we S.N.O.W., we can have SNOW on December 19th (see flyer)!

Campus Spirit Tee:

Be on the lookout to order your 24-25 RSPA Campus Spirit Tee on MySchoolBucks!

See other campus items on MySchoolBucks.

Early Release Fridays:

Every Friday is an Early Release Day. All scholars will be dismissed at 1:30 PM. Please ensure transportation methods are arranged accordingly.

It’s that time of year…RSPA’s Science Fair is scheduled for Thursday, November 14th! This is a time for our scholars to apply their critical thinking skills. Visit the C&I web page to review the schedule of assignments and download your scholar's Science Fair packets.

School Climate Survey Coming Soon:

Our school is participating in the Stronger Connections grant, with a goal to strengthen the school climate and culture and provide additional services and support to students. An online anonymous school climate survey will be administered at our school in the coming weeks. The survey will collect responses from students, staff, and parents to questions related to school relationships, engagement, bullying, substance use, teaching, and the school environment. This information will be used to guide us in promoting a healthy school environment for students to learn at our school.

Hello, Parents and Guardians,

Happy October! This month, we’re focusing on building positive and open communication. This will enable us to engage and explore different ways of communicating with your scholars at home.

The CREW topic of the month is Integrity. I will host individual and group sessions on integrity. We will also exercise talk therapy and role play to ensure the understanding of integrity and how to implement it into their day-to-day interactions.

Be sure to virtually join me for the next installment of Coffee with the Counselor on Thursday, October 3rd at 9:00 AM!
