According to our bylaws, the Meeting of the Districts shall be held for the purpose of instruction and any pertinent District Business. Each state officer will present a brief report with information pertinent to their respective offices, and we will have both a Treasurers and a Regents Workshop. The full agenda will be distributed soon and will also be available on the ASDAR Members Only Website.
MOD Highlights
We are fortunate to have a brief video presentation by Denise Bennett. This vivacious Texas Daughter was to be our guest during the Friday evening event and has graciously agreed to join our meeting and portray American Suffragist Lucy Burns. As you know, August 18 will mark the 100
th Anniversary of the ratification of the 19
th Amendment. In addition, her 30-minute, award-winning presentation in which she portrays Carrie Chapman Catt will be available to us on YouTube via a link on our website. This will make a wonderful program for your chapter. I am so thankful to the American suffragists who sacrificed much to ensure women were guaranteed the right to vote on August 20, 1920, when the 19
th Amendment was added to the U.S. Constitution. We will also have greetings from Elizabeth “Beth” Watkins, Pennsylvania State Regent, who was also to be an honored guest at our meeting.
I am grateful to President General Denise Doring VanBuren for having the determination and fortitude to stage a virtual 129
th Continental Congress, which provided our members with the confidence to entertain a virtual 2020 Meeting of the Districts! Her
CAN DO IT attitude is contagious and I am confident Alabama Daughters
CAN DO IT too!
I look forward to Zooming with you on
August 15 as we conduct the first virtual meeting of the Alabama Society DAR.
