Lakeside Featured on Cleveland Fox 8 "New Day"
If you were on the Lakeside grounds June 14 or 19, you might have noticed some camera crews around the business district, down by the waterfront or at several other popular Lakeside locations.
Those camera crews, hosts and producers were from Cleveland
Fox 8 and were gathering footage and interviews to use for a special "New Day" segment about Lakeside Chautauqua.

"New Day" hosts Natalie Herbick and David Moss travel in search of the best vacation areas for Cleveland-area residents. The segments are an hour-long and highlight the best places for dining, shopping, entertainment and lodging in a given area. Watch the video.
Garden Tour
The 13th Annual Garden Tour will take place from
9 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, July 11 at the various winning gardens across the Lakeside grounds.

A Garden Tour Pass to enter the grounds is available for $10, which includes an Auto Pass, but does not include admission to the Hoover Auditorium performance that evening or the Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus. For those with a Season Chautauqua Pass or Daily Chautauqua Pass, there is no additional charge. Read more...
Photo Contest
Lakesiders of all ages are invited to submit photos to be featured in the 2019 Calendar of Events brochure, as well as on Lakeside's social media pages, website, The Front Porch blog, Lakesider newspaper, advertisements, etc.

Images should represent people enjoying Lakeside through photos of families, traditions, children, religion, education, cultural arts (special events and programming), recreation, landscape or architecture.

The deadline for submission is Friday, Oct. 5. The limit is five photos per photographer. View the full contest rules.

Preacher of the Week: The Rev. Dr. Thomas G. Long
Supported by the Rev. Dr. Bud Cox Endowment

The Rev. Dr. Thomas G. Long will serve as Lakeside's Preacher of the Week from July 8-12. This week is supported by the Rev. Dr. Bud Cox Endowment.

He'll preach at the 10:30 a.m. Hoover Community Worship Service on Sunday, July 8 in Hoover Auditorium.

In commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen's last published novel, explore the author's life, works and legacy with Juliette Wells, PhD, Elizabeth Conolly Todd Distinguished Professor of English at Goucher College.

The Ides of March featuring Jim Peterik
Best remembered for their 1970s hit "Vehicle," The Ides of March is now in their 54th year together as a band, having retained all four original band members since their humble garage beginnings in 1964. The Ides, or their lead singer and songwriter Jim Peterik, have had hit records in every decade of their existence.

Family Night in the Park: Long Time Gone
Long Time Gone is a band that features the music of David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash and Neil Young. More than just a cover band, the group also delves into all the music that has involved these four legendary songwriters to include The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, The Hollies and more.

Hoover Movie Night: "Sense and Sensibility" (PG)
"Sense and Sensibility" stars Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, James Fleet and Alan Rickman. When Elinor Dashwood's (Emma Thompson) father dies, her family's finances are destroyed. After the Dashwoods move to a cottage in Devonshire, Elinor's sister Marianne (Kate Winslet) is torn between the handsome John Willoughby (Greg Wise) and the older Colonel Brandon (Alan Rickman).

Blues musicians Andra Faye and Scott Ballantine are native Hoosiers and
honed their musical skills in the capitol city of Indianapolis. Faye is known for her strong vocals and being a multi-instrumentalist, while Ballantine is known for his guitar skills and having the best vintage guitar shops

"Wheel of Science"
Lakeside welcomes back Doktor Kaboom! as part of our new Family Entertainment Series. These special shows, held on select Wednesday nights throughout the summer, are geared especially toward families and begin at 7:30 p.m. Doktor Kaboom! is an interactive, one-man, science variety show suitable for all ages that creatively blends theater arts with the wonders of scientific exploration and experimentation.

Six Appeal
Six Appeal is a vocal ensemble infused with impeccable comedic timing and the energy of a rock band. Swearing off instruments, the award-winning vocal band returns to Hoover Auditorium to take Lakesiders on a journey spanning decades of music, performing classic oldies, current chart toppers and catchy original tunes, all sung a cappella.

Jimmy Osmond "Moon River & Me"
Starring Jimmy Osmond, the youngest of the Osmond entertainment family, "Moon River & Me" is full of music, nostalgic footage and special memories of Andy Williams, his mentor and friend of many years. He hosted "The Andy Williams Show" from 1962-1971 and later developed The Moon River Theatre in Branson, Mo., named after the song he is most known for singing - Johnny Mercer and Henry Mancini's "Moon River."

There are three shuffleboard tournaments this week, each without a separate entry fee, although players must belong to an Ohio State Shuffleboard Association (OSSA) sanctioned club.
 
The best value is to join the Lakeside Shuffleboard Club (LSC) for $5. Join at the shuffleboard courts anytime, including just before signing up for each tournament. Sign up begins at 8:15 a.m. and ends promptly at 9 a.m.
 
This tournament, held Monday, July 9-Wednesday, July 11, is open to any two players (age 16 & older) who wish to team up. Amateurs and experts are welcome.

These 30-minute rides begin at
6 p.m. with the last ride departing at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $20 for adults and $6 for children (ages 4-12). Hour-long sunset cruises aboard Amazing Grace start at 8 p.m. The cost is $32 for adults and $10 for children (ages 4-12).

Feast on hot dogs, baked beans, macaroni salad, chips, watermelon, cookies and lemonade. Bring your own reusable pates and utensils and a blanket or lawn chair, as picnic tables are limited. There is no charge, but a $4 donation is suggested to offset the cost. In the event of rain, the picnic will be cancelled.

Todd O'Neal, Pastor at the Joy Christian Ministries in the Cincinnati suburb of College Station, will lead our community in a congregational song and worship gathering for three Fridays this summer while he's here with the "Lakeside for Youth" camps.

Sign up for Rhein Center Classes
Online registration with credit card payment opens at 8 a.m. each Thursday for the following week's classes. This year, the Rhein Center will also be offering Saturday classes.   
Kids Needed to Deliver Lakesider Newspaper
At 9 a.m. Fridays, kids ages 10-15 are invited to the Legacy House, 217 Walnut Ave., to deliver Lakesider newspapers.

On Saturday, 12 children ages 6-10 are needed to hand out the Lakesider on the Hoover porch from 7:30-8 p.m. Report to the porch at 7:15 p.m.

Volunteers will receive their choice of a free Coffee & Cream soft-serve ice cream coupon or miniature golf coupon.
