Updated Class of 2021 Graduation
Ceremony Protocols
As high school graduation ceremonies near for the Class of 2021, Cedar Rapids Community School District continues to move forward with its plans for the in-person events. CRCSD has worked in tandem with the Alliant Energy PowerHouse to review and update recommended mask and social distancing protocols:
  • the removal of the capacity limitations for patrons, which means allotted tickets are no longer required
  • masks are optional
  • patrons will seat themselves as general admission in the upper concourse balcony
  • CRCSD will maintain social distancing seating plans for students and staff on the floor level

The ceremonies for Jefferson, Kennedy, and Washington high schools will be held in the Alliant Energy PowerHouse, formerly known as the U.S. Cellular Center. The Metro High School ceremony will be held at the Doubletree Convention Center.

Friends and family members who are not attending in-person may watch ceremonies on KCRG 9.2 and through livestreams, which are detailed in the link below.
Note From Noreen
Retiree Class of 2021

1,646 Years! That’s right, our CRCSD retiring employees have contributed a collective 1,646 years to our school district!

We are celebrating our retirees today. They are on the final “leg” of their career “race.” These moments are always bittersweet for our district’s team members, but especially for the retirees. They have dedicated their lives to serve our students, and for that, we are forever grateful.

If you know one of our CRCSD retiring team members, please feel free to send them a note of thanks for their service. We will be savoring every moment with them in the last days of the school year and wish all of them the very best!

High School Seniors Walk Their Elementary School Halls One Last Time

This past week, seniors from Jefferson, Kennedy, and Washington high schools donned their graduation caps and gowns and visited their elementary schools. The senior walk tradition—organized by the Cedar Rapids Community Schools Foundation—celebrates seniors' success and inspires elementary students.
Coolidge Prepares For New Building

Coolidge Elementary School students participated in their annual walk-a-thon this week. After the event, students gathered in the playground to sing their school song one last time and retire Calvin the cougar, the Coolidge school mascot. Students then introduced Asha the wolf, who is the new West Willow mascot for the school's opening this fall. Asha means 'strength and hope' in Swahili.
