trip or speaking to someone in another part of the state? INDOT has a website, where residents can find out information about construction projects anywhere in the state, which can be found here at Next Level Roads . Similar to the NIRPC RTIP map; the Next Level Roads website shows locations of projects anywhere in the state. The projects listed include INDOT and local sponsored projects, including Community Crossing projects. On the right side of the screen, residents can turn on or off each of the INDOT districts ( 6 different districts ), current or future projects ( by year; up to 2024 ) and the project type. This website not only serves as a great resource but it is very informative, with a lot of details for all to appreciate and enjoy. Does Northwestern Indiana Have Strong Logistics? How NIRPC is keeping up with transportation and logistics is highlighted in two articles in the Oct-Nov issue of Northwest Indiana Business Magazine. NIRPC received two requests regarding freight and logistics information to state the current condition in Northwestern Indiana. NIRPC shared current projects that are key to transportation infrastructure and networks to expand our region scope in logistics. With support from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Lake Michigan Coastal Program, NIRPC participated with local land conservation partners on a planning process to address the conservation planning gap areas of: Oak Ridge / Hoosier Prairie (Lake County), Moraine / Sunset Hill (Porter Country), and Amber Flatwoods (LaPorte County). This process yielded conservation action plans for these key areas that will be used by conservation organizations and land managers to advance land and wildlife conservation in the Calumet region. On September 30 NIRPC published our Annual List of Obligated Projects (ALOP) . This is a list of projects that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) or Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has obligated funding to in Northwestern Indiana. In fiscal year 2019, the FHWA and FTA allocated $230,430,146 for projects in Northwestern Indiana. These funds were obligated to INDOT, counties, municipalities, transit operators, and NIRPC itself. Funds were obligated in six different areas:
  • Bridges (21%) – $49,218,030 (21%)
  • Intersections (12%) – $28,640,043
  • Roadways (42%) – $96,913,814
  • Transit (11%) – $24,987,992
  • Other Projects (8%) – $17,305,633
  • Bike/Pedestrian (6%) – $13,364,635

Those funds (and their projects) were in the following counties:
  • Lake (16%) -
  • $36,770,721
  • LaPorte (4%) – $9,453,910
  • Porter (8%) – $18,822,122
  • INDOT (62%) – $143,525,760
  • Various (10%) – $21,857,632
