Nonprofit Spotlight – YWCA
The YWCA is the oldest and largest multicultural women’s organization in the world, with more than 25 million members in 122 countries—including 2 million members in 200 U.S. associations. Guided by its mission to eliminate racism and empower women, the YWCA creates spaces for women and girls, builds strong women leaders, and advocates for women’s and civil rights.
In Hamilton, the YWCA has been changing lives for 125 years. From July 2024 through June 2025, they:
- Reached more than 66,000 people through programs and services
- Housed 57 individuals experiencing homelessness
- Sheltered 190 survivors of domestic and sexual violence
Sadly, the need for YWCA’s services is great. In Ohio last year:
- 114 fatalities occurred in 85 IPV-related cases
- 15 children and teens were killed, including 7 children murdered by a parent or step-parent
- 5 pregnant women were murdered by their baby’s father
- 79 minor children lost a parent, and 33 children witnessed a caregiver’s murder firsthand
- Victims ranged from 4 months to 85 years old
On their expanded campus, YWCA Hamilton continues to be a beacon of hope by empowering youth through prevention programs, providing housing for disabled homeless individuals, and standing up for the most vulnerable.
