GNS Division To Tour Florida Panhandle
The Alabama Farmers Federation Greenhouse, Nursery & Sod (GNS) Division is hosting an educational tour of the Florida Panhandle June 22-23.

Farm tours include:
  • an oyster hatchery
  • the University of Florida Turf Research Unit
  • Flowerwood Nursery
  • Panhandle Growers, a field tree nursery

The agenda includes a seminar with Federation Rittenour Award winner Jeremy Pickens of Alabama Extension (pictured with former GNS Division Director Hunter McBrayer).
Christjohn Joins Federation Commodity Staff
The Alabama Farmers Federation welcomed Colton Christjohn to its Governmental & Agricultural Programs (GAP) Department April 25. Christjohn will serve as director of the Federation’s Dairy, Pork and Poultry divisions. 

The Calhoun County native has two degrees from Auburn University (AU), a bachelor’s in animal science and a Master of Science. He joins the Federation from Wayne Farms in Enterprise, where he was a processing superintendent.
Ag Communicators Make Waves In Gulf Shores
Agricultural communicators from across the U.S. converged on Gulf Shores April 20-22 for AgVidCon, a video production conference coordinated by the Alabama Farmers Federation (AFF).

Alabama Ag Credit (AAC) is launching a Vendor Voucher program, which pays vendor fees for farmers market participants. AAC will directly pay the certified farmers market of the farmer’s choice — up to $100 for non-Alabama Ag Credit customers and up to $300 for customers. Click here to fill out the application.

Alabama farmers are encouraged to nominate research and Extension personnel whose work tangibly impacted their farms for awards from the Alabama Farmers Federation. Click here to nominate experts for the Rittenour and Duncan Awards by June 3.

Applications for the Eugene Blair Starter Flock Program are open through July 15. The program provides ewes to fledgling sheep farmers. Click here to access the application.
