Cooking Up Savory Sliders In Annual Contest

A recipe that sprang into Rhonda Hughes’ mind in the wee hours of the night scored her first place in the Alabama Farmers Federation slider-themed Heritage Cooking Contest Sept. 8.

Hughes of Jefferson County received $150 from the Federation’s Women’s Leadership Division, along with bragging rights. Jane Elliott of Chambers County earned second place and $100 for Orange Chicken Sliders, while Lawrence County’s Sandra Terry notched third place and $50 for Easy Philly Sliders.

Prevatt Joins Federation As Commodity Director 
The Alabama Farmers Federation welcomed Christopher Prevatt as commodity director for the Beef, Equine, Hay & Forage and Sheep & Goat divisions Sept. 6. 
 
Prevatt is a two-time graduate of Auburn University. He received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Agricultural Business and Economics. He comes to the Federation from the University of Florida, where he was a state Extension specialist focused on beef cattle and forage economics. 
Alfa Farmers Joins Peanuts Around Town
On Aug. 24, Houston County Farmers Federation and Alfa Insurance® unveiled the latest statue in Dothan’s Peanuts Around Town series. Named “George the Farmer,” he is located in front of the Federation and Alfa Insurance office at 1038 Ross Clark Circle.

The statue joins more than 70 in the series. The latest legume artwork was designed by Federation Creative Technical Director Mike Moody.

AU Young Farmers strive to prepare members for future endeavors and create opportunities to network with industry leaders.
