EVENTS AT BUCKS COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE

All events are free and open to the public. Attendees of The ArtShow Cocktails with the Curator Walk Through event must be 21 years of age.

Hicks Art Center Courtyard Gate Reception I April 17, 12:30 PM, Hicks Art Center

Recent retirees Karl Carter and John Mathews were awarded a Cultural Incentive Grant from the Cultural Affairs Committee in 2024 to enhance the Hicks courtyard entrance on the Newtown campus. Originally, there was a wooden gate at the stone entrance of the courtyard, however, Karl and John collaborated to create a new gate by using glass rondelles and steel construction. The new gate has steel hardware hinges for the gate to hang and swing in both directions, allowing easy access to the courtyard. The steel gate is welded, cleaned, and painted with many coats of Rustoleum so the finish will be resilient for many years. The glass rondelles are protected with the Bucks County Community College school colors of blue and white.

The gate continues in the tradition of other artistic enhancements in and around Hicks, such as the permanent exterior sculptures, stained glass windows, interior painting and sculpture and the Hicks architecture.

Karl and John will return to campus to celebrate their creative collaboration with a reception at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17. Refreshments will be served.

Please join us to see the new gate and talk with Karl and John about their creative expressive work! Refreshments will be served.
