Supporting You Through Times of Change

As many Maine hospitals face the difficult decision to close their Labor & Delivery units, we recognize the significant impact this has on families, communities, and the hospitals stepping up to care for more mothers and newborns.

At the Alfond Scholarship Foundation, we’re mindful of these changes and remain committed to supporting you through this evolving landscape. Please don’t hesitate to reach out — we’re here to help however we can.

With appreciation for all you do,

Colleen, Kate & Caroline

New Alfond Grant Materials Available!

We’re excited to offer new laminated posters and tear-away flyers for hospitals, pediatric offices, OB/GYN clinics, and other family health settings! The laminated posters provide another easy way for families to share their contact info, featuring a QR code option to connect their child with their Alfond Grant — a great complement to our contact cards. Labor & Delivery units especially love the posters because they’re easy to sanitize and hold up well in busy spaces.

The tear-away flyers are perfect for postpartum and well-child visits — simply display them in your waiting area or at check-in for families to take.

Want some mailed to your office? Just send us a quick email at info@myalfondgrant.org and we’ll get them right out to you!

Celebrating the First Alfond Grant Recipients at MaineGeneral

We had a wonderful evening at MaineGeneral Health in Augusta with the Finance Authority of Maine (FAME) celebrating the first recipients of the $500 Alfond Grant — all born at MaineGeneral Medical Center in 2008!

ASF and FAME spoke with students about how their grants, now worth nearly $2,000, can help with education costs. Many are preparing for their next steps after high school, which is just around the corner.

It was a special night with some of the Maine kids who started it all.

Maine Families Benefit from the Alfond Grant

In February, we invited parents and caregivers to share how their child's Alfond Grant has made a difference in their lives. Here are some of your inspiring stories!

"As a 38-year-old, I just finished paying off my student loans, and I'm so grateful for the Alfond Grant to get me to think ahead for my kids so they aren't saddled with debt in the future. When I told my mom that both of my children received Alfond Grants upon their birth, she was so inspired that she decided to contribute $100 on each of their birthdays and for Christmas to their accounts."

- Elizabeth, Wells

"Learning about the Alfond Grant while pregnant with my daughter inspired us to take advantage of this awesome Maine program and begin investing for her future education! By setting up automatic contributions, we've been able to grow that account without much extra effort. We've seen firsthand how much of a difference it makes to start early and invest -- even a little at a time -- and we're excited to have some savings to help pay for college when the time comes!"

- Kelsey, North Yarmouth

Having the Alfond Grant has helped me think deeper and plan better for my son's life after school. Having the opportunity to have a starting point [for savings] and knowing others are also invested in my son's future feels so special. Thank you! We will continue to save when we can and family contribution is a fun option for holidays."

- Julie, Searsport

Whoopie Pie Season is Almost Here!

One of our favorite traditions is just around the corner — whoopie pie deliveries to our incredible maternity staff partners!

It’s our sweet way of saying thank you for all you do to help families connect with the $500 Alfond Grant and complete their contact cards.

Colleen, Kate, and Caroline will be hitting the road in June, delivering boxes of Wicked Whoopies to Labor & Delivery units across the state — we’re excited to see you!
