Celebrate our Teens and their Future!

Enter for a chance to win!

Not all our $500 Alfond Grant recipients are babies anymore — our oldest recipients are now seniors in high school, with some having Alfond Grants that have grown to over $2,000! We want to celebrate our oldest kids’ growth and bright futures with this month’s Alfond Grant Photo Contest.

Share your favorite photos of older kids in your life — fun, thoughtful, or inspiring! From November 10th to November 24th, enter our Alfond Grant Photo Contest for a chance to win a $100 NextGen Gift of College gift card! A winner will be randomly drawn on November 25th.

Note: For participants under 18, parents or guardians must provide consent. If 18 or older, participants provide their own consent. Photos may be used in future marketing and promotional materials for the Alfond Scholarship Foundation.

Reminder: Boost Your Savings Before Year End!

Do you know about the annual matching grants for Maine residents? Contribute to a NextGen 529 account and receive 30% of your contribution amount in a NextStep Matching Grant—up to a $300 match per year!

Family members can also make one-time contributions to a college savings account—a great holiday gift from grandparents or others that can help maximize the NextStep Matching Grant!

The FAFSA is now live!

If your child is graduating from high school this year and planning to continue their education, now’s the time to start preparing for what comes next! Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is an important first step for any student considering college or a program that offers financial aid.

Need help? FAME is hosting a Virtual FAFSA Help Session on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 6:00pm. View the calendar and register for a session today!

Spotlight on Our Alfond Grant Ambassadors

Our Alfond Grant Ambassadors are making a difference all across Maine! From community fairs to back-to-school events, they’re out there sharing information, answering questions, and helping families learn how to make the most of their child’s Alfond Grant.

As one ambassador put it, “The event was a blast! It felt like a 50/50 mix of people who knew about the Alfond Grant and those who didn’t.” Others shared how rewarding it is to help parents discover money set aside for their child’s future and connect them to tools to help them prepare for their child's future education.

Want to join in? We’re looking for new ambassadors in Aroostook, Penobscot, Knox, Waldo, Piscataquis, Somerset, Franklin, and Oxford counties. Get in touch to learn more—you could help more Maine families plan for their children’s futures!
