Wilmington's Young Community Leaders
The Delaware Legislative Black Caucus hosted team members of The Teen Warehouse at Legislative Hall last month. The program, created "for teens, by teens" includes a groups of high school students who serve as mentors to younger students. The mentors shape, plan and execute the entire program on their own, demonstrating their outstanding leadership skills.

At the luncheon, members of the DLBC had the opportunity to hear from the young mentors about their work in shaping each student, regardless of their background, through a collaborative effort. One method, used to recenter and refocus students, is the daily moment of mindfulness.

The Teen Warehouse provides an outlet for the under-served youth in Wilmington to reach their full potential. The project aims to address violence in the city, students' need for academic support, and career readiness.

Thank you for visiting Legislative Hall, sharing your mission with us, and bringing a moment of mindfulness with you!

Action Alert!: Criminal Justice Reform Rally
The Jonathan Fleming Foundation will be holding a Rally for Second Chances on the East Steps of Legislative Hall in Dover at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17 , to seek support for a 19-bill criminal justice reform package unveiled last month.

The ACLU of Delaware, Coalition for Smart Justice Delaware, the Campaign for Smart Justice, the American Constitution Society at Widener Law and many other groups also will be lobbying lawmaker in support of his ambitious legislation, which seeks to rebalance Delaware's justice system by reducing the state’s high rate of recidivism, removing barriers to opportunity for inmates returning to society, and right-sizing criminal sentencing.

The first of those bills -- the Adult Expungement Reform Act sponsored by Delaware Legislative Black Caucus Chairman Sen. Darius Brown, D-Wilmington -- is slated for a vote on the Senate floor the same day.

Please join us for this event and reach out to your local lawmaker and urge them to support this bill (SS1 for SB37) and the other 18 measures that will be coming before them soon.
