Dear MCPK Families,

We hope your families are enjoying this blazing hot summer and finding fun ways to stay cool.  We appreciate your patience as we plan and prepare for the fall, continuously adjusting as new information and policies are released on the local, state and federal level.

Several of you have reached out to ask if we will change our plan to return to full-time in person learning in light of Montclair Public School’s hybrid approach announced last week.  As long as NJ schools are permitted to open, and Montclair schools have some form of in person education, MCPK will offer our full school day and slightly reduced extended care program to all currently enrolled students Monday through Friday

Our hours will be similar to our normal schedule, though we will stagger school day arrival and departure times with 30 minute windows in order to allow for morning health screenings and outdoor arrival (8:00-8:30 and 8:30-9:00) and dismissal (2:00-2:30 and 2:30-3:00).  Our temporary extended care hours will be 7:30-5:30 to start the school year. Again, we are asking families to only use extended care as needed, since we are limited in our ability to have additional staff with each group. We hope to resume regular hours and program capacity in later phases of the re-opening, as school procedures normalize.

We are currently meeting with our “Re-Opening Committee” and “Pandemic Response Teams” to review and perfect our plans. We are working with the other early childhood educational leaders in town to share resources and anticipate issues. We are incorporating staff and parent feedback from surveys, emails and phone calls. We thank those of you who have reached out to give us input and share your questions and ideas.  Please keep ‘em coming!   We will gradually release our “finalized” documents (nothing is final in a pandemic!) starting with our FAQ’s next week.

We are here if you need us…
