The Four Stages of Life in Chinese Culture (Part 2)
There are four life stages that are significant in Chinese culture. They are birth, aging, sickness, and death. Following the previous newsletter about birth and death, this one will share some Chinese culture about aging and sickness.
Traditional Chinese medicine theories believe that human beings are supposed to live over 100 years if we have good self-control and live according to the natural laws (The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine). Aging is inevitable. However, it is possible to have a well-functional body full of spirit over 100 years old.
A famous Chinese proverb says "Disease enters through the mouth, disaster comes out of the mouth". It is wise to be careful about what to say to people as much as to choose what to eat and drink. Based on this idea, many Chinese people believe in food and diet therapies to prevent and cure diseases.
