Keeping You Informed Of Chinese Culture In Colorado Springs

Newsletter  February 2025| Issue 2025-02

Chinese People and Culture in Colorado and the U.S.A

Chinese immigrants first came to the U.S.A. around 1860 as laborers due to the California gold rush and the construction of the Central Pacific Railroad. Some stayed in Colorado and brought Chinese culture to the Rocky Mountains. Now, there are 47,000 Chinese living in Colorado, and they actively contribute cultural elements to Colorado society through Chinese language schools, festivals, art, music, and businesses.

In the following months of 2025, the editor of this newsletter will focus on the history of Chinese immigration, key events and figures, stories, and cultural impact in Colorado and the U.S.A.

The Rise and Fall of Chinatown in Denver

Believe it or not, there was a Chinatown in Denver around 1880. After a riot against the Chinese people, the Chinatown eventually disappeared. The following video shares stories before and after this historical event.

Thank You for Joining the Chinese New Year Festival in Colorado Springs!

Hundreds of people participated in our 2025 Chinse New Year celebration event at the ENT Center of UCCS a month ago. It was a snowy day. But people showed up and the spirit was high to start the Year of the Snake. Many thanks to all for your participation, sponsorships, performance, and volunteering work!

Gazette, a local newspaper in Colorado Springs, had a nice piece of coverage on this event "For 26th year, Colorado Springs Chinese New Year festival highlights culture, tradition and community" (click the title to read it).
