The Great Books in Chinese (Part 1)
During our Mid-Autumn Festival Hot-Pot Dinner Event, Prof. David Boyd delivered a keynote speech about applying principles from the book "The Art of War" to personal life in the present society. The book was written by Sun Tzu in 515 BC. Yet, militaries and businesses are still using it for various purposes after 2,500 years. The power of the classics is evident in both the East and the West.
To explore more Chinese classic books in both English and Chinese, the Chinese Text Project at https://ctext.org/ provides the best access to Chinese thinkers and their thoughts.
However, the most well-known and popular books in China are not from classical thinkers. They are novels known as The Four Great Books. They are Journey to the West, Water Margin, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and Dream of the Red Chamber. These novels reflect every aspect of Chinese culture and society with fascinating history, characters, religion, imagination, and humanity.
