Tea and Confucianism

Tea and Confucianism have a long-standing connection in Chinese culture, where tea drinking has been intertwined with Confucian ideals such as harmony, respect, ritual propriety, and social relationships. Through its emphasis on etiquette, balance, and virtue, tea has become more than just a beverage—it is a medium for cultivating the moral and social ideals central to Confucian philosophy

These connections might have started when Lu Yu wrote the first monograph on tea, The Classic of Tea, around 760 CE. Lu Yu was an orphan raised by Buddhist monks in a temple. He did not become a Buddhist but a tea master who laid a grand foundation through his book for the treatise of tea, from the history and cultivation of tea to the preparation and appreciation of tea, and the tools used in its preparation. The treatise hugely influenced how tea was understood and consumed in China, and its influence spread far beyond China over the centuries.

How to Use a Homestyle Tea Set

Lu Yu, the author of The Classic of Tea described 24 various utensils used for preparing and serving tea, emphasizing their quality and function. It was more for demonstration and performance. A homestyle tea preparation requires fewer utensils and procedures, thanks to modern technology and tools.

The following video introduces a simple and fun way of using a tea set to brew fresh tea and share it with family and friends.
