Please do not hesitate to email me for information you wish to have included at dgraziano@ndcrhs.org!

  • Training Our Scholars for Success in YOUR Company

With the Christmas & New Year holidays fast approaching, please note NDCR's CWSP will be closed from December 20 to January 3, 2024. Student workers will NOT be working during the holiday recess. Thank you for your understanding!

Tips for Working with Student Workers!

Consider asking these three questions once a week!

#1 How are WE doing?

This sets the tone of the supervisor with his/her student worker. It gives an idea of how everyone perceives the work experience as a team.

#2 Why do YOU think that?

This allows for the student worker to share both positive and critical feedback about his/her work as well as needed guidance from his/her supervisor.

#3 What can WE do to address # 2?

By asking this, you are sharing that the teamwork and rapport with your student worker is a two-way street. Teamwork!

Other Tips for a Successful Journey with Your Student Worker:

Invite student workers to be actively involved!

Student workers tend to feel more valued if they are asked to get involved in a conversation, problem solving and assisting with decision making! When they feel part of the solution, the project is even more exciting to them!

Hands on training and experiential learning is encouraged!

In today's busy day-to-day, sitting and listening to a lecture can be challenging (as well as for adults!) even if the topic is very interesting. Student workers tend to learn even better when you introduce hands-on, tangible activities that allow them to get up and move, think, communicate and share ideas!

Ask clarifying questions!:

Just as adults make sure to ask clarifying questions of their colleagues to avoid making assumptions, student workers like to be asked as well. Each student worker has unique gifts, talents and individualities - not one student worker is like the next! What a gift!

NDCR Student Worker Training

At NDCR, we know that continuous training and development of our scholars in the workplace will set them up for success in the workplace, with you and in their future career paths.

We are grateful to Junior Achievement who recently came in and trained our freshmen about learning to be creative in the workplace!

About Those Cell Phones!

A good tip regarding cell phones in the workplace is to collect them as they begin work. You can give back on breaks or lunch. They have been told if an emergency, NDCR CWSP will contact your workplace, or they will contact us. Educators at NDCR collect cell phones at the beginning of class, and working together to encourage this behavior is appreciated - when requesting cell phones, please be sure to share that we are in partnership on this policy!

If you know anyone who would benefit from NDCR student workers in their company, I would be grateful if you could pass along my contact information. Thank you for your continued support! Dean Graziano, J.D. VP of Corporate Study
