Costa Track and Field
have strong performances as season begins!
Mira Costa Track and Field has started the season with some strong performances and a new school record! Sophomore Cormac Carew ran 1:58.53 for the new 800m Sophomore School Record! Amari Fraser has also been a stand out in the 100M and 300M Hurdles with several 1st Places. The Pole Vault Team is enjoying some early successes as well.

Costa Softball Team faces
tough competition in preseason!

Since the season started the Mustangs have competed in two tournaments and faced tough non-league opponents. Varsity is 5-9 and have their first Bay League game on Wednesday 3/20 vs Palos Verdes at Mira Costa. JV is 2-2-1. Read More

 Mira Costa Baseball starts the season strong with winning records at all three levels.
Varsity  7-3 (2-0 Bay League)
JV         8-2 (2-0 Bay League)
Frosh  12-0
All teams play Tuesday, Friday and Saturday this week.

All Summer School Classes are now open for registration including Flex and Athletics

Please register for the grade your student will be entering in the fall.
2019 Summer School dates are:

Session 1: Monday, June 17 - Tuesday, July 2
(note classes meet Mon. – Fri. the first 2 weeks)
Session 2: Monday, July 8 - Thursday, July 25 (Mon. – Thurs.)

Academic courses meet from 8 am to 1:30 pm.

MBX Flex courses are available to students needing a more flexible summer school schedule. Please check our website for more information and available courses by clicking here . Classes can begin as early as June 17 and must be completed by August 9.

Cyber Security Club Update

The Mira Costa Cybersecurity Club took two teams to compete at the California Mayors Cyber Cup at Long Beach City College. This was their first year competing in the event and the teams shined with 2nd and 5th place finishes. Their accomplishments have led them to being invited to the California Cyber Innovation Challenge held at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo over the summer. We are so proud of these students and the growth they have made over the last few years!
Winterguard triumphs at competition!

The talented Costa Winterguard took first place in their division at a local competition at Paramount High School. Their performance of “The ancient pond of koi and crane” won praise and helped cement their strong record. Way to go Winterguard !

 The Varsity Beach Volleyball team opened their 2019 season with their new Head Coach, Nancy Mason Reynolds on March 9th at Dockweiler State Beach. The Sandy Stangs racked up their 88th & 89th consecutive match victories with wins against Santa Monica High School and Pacific Palisades High School!

Mira Costa Boys Varsity attended the annual Best of the West Tournament in San Diego on March 8th and 9th. Best of the West is an invitation-only tournament considered the top tournament in California, perhaps the nation. Costa won their pool on Friday to remain in the Gold Division going into play-offs on Saturday. They made it to the semi-finals where they were matched up against last year’s Best of the West champion, Newport Harbor.
Girls Lacrosse season starts strong

Another great week for Girls Lacrosse starting out with a powerful win against Peninsula by Varsity with a 16-11 win on Wednesday, which was followed by a tough loss against powerhouse Palos Verdes on Friday by a score of 18 to 8. The Lady Mustangs bounced right back on Saturday with a thrilling overtime win against Palisades Charter 11-10
Costa Swim Team has outstanding performances at Mt SAC!
Mt. SAC was a huge success! Both Varsity and JV crushed it on Friday and Saturday and Mira Costa truly left their mark on this meet. With 35 teams competing, Boys Varsity finished in 8thplace and Girls Varsity finished in 12th place with limited swimmers and competitors in relays. The Friday prelims was a very long meet session, but everyone did pretty well with finding their events and staying positive. Luckily, there was an arsenal of subway sandwiches and other snacks and water to keep us happy. Read More
Costa Football players recognized at National Football Scholar Athlete banquet!

Congratulations to our Mustang players Jordan Corral, Nick Carpino, Koda Thormodsgaard and Slade Gordon who were honored at the National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete Banquet! They were recognized for their sacrifice and dedication to the game of football, education, family and community.
Costa Ruggers Preparing for Wales, United Kingdom Tour!

 The Mira Costa Ruggers have been working hard after a great trip to the Las Vegas In­ternational 7s Tournament for their upcoming tour of Wales. The boys will compete in 3 match­es against the Rugby- loving Welsh. They’ll tour London before heading to Wales. In Wales they’ll see the sights, visit with the great Welsh people, tour Principality Stadium where Wales just defeated Ireland in a huge Six Nations match. Read More
Boys Tennis is 2-0 at start of Bay League!

In a Bay League match between the #3 ranked Panthers and the #4 ranked Mustangs, the Mustangs prevailed 11-7. In singles, Matthew Poh (MC) won three sets 6-2, 6-2, and 6-3; and Tim Dzhurinskiy (MC) won three sets 6-2, 6-3, and 6-2. In doubles, Max Weulfing/Ethan Han (MC) won two sets 6-4 and 6-1; and Nick Darrow/Kyle Sillman (MC) won three sets 6-3, 6-4, and 6-4. Orchestra earns “Unanimous Superior” rating plus prepares for
Eclectic Ensemble
on Friday!

Congratulations to the Mira Costa Orchestras for their performances last Saturday at the SCSBOA festival at Santa Ana High School. All three ensembles earned a “Unanimous Superior” rating for both their concert program and sight reading. This is the highest possible rating, reserved only for the truly exceptional music groups! Bravo to the musicians of the Philharmonic, Symphony and Chamber Orchestras! Badminton Team ready to begin season!

The badminton tournaments and games begin in March. The team has played two school matches and one Varsity tournament and one JV tournament so far. Both Varsity and JV teams have competed well and won both competitions with other schools convincingly. As season goes on, players are getting better and better; and look forward to more exciting matches and wins. Read More

Exciting Summer Options for All Grades 

Summer planning is underway and MBX/MBUSD are making many programs available to incoming K-8th graders on several campuses. Returning with rave reviews from previous summers are Steve and Kate, Galileo, reDiscover, Planet Bravo and TGA Tennis.

But... that’s not all! Some of your favorite after school providers are offering programs in art/engineering/architecture, culinary and cooking delights, weeks of fun academic activities, and Tinkering projects. And, especially for aspiring bicycle riders, Pedalheads Bike Camp is joining the roster.
