Happy Women's History Month!

To continue our month-long campaign bringing light to women's contributions to culture and society in Germany, we feature our final woman in the series. This week, it's Emine Sevgi Özdamar.

Özdamar is most well known for her writing and literary prowess.

She won the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize in 1991 for an excerpt from her first novel.

Important Dates & Deadlines for DAAD Programs, Scholarships, & Grants

May 1: German Studies Research Grant

This specialized DAAD program offers German Studies Research Grants to highly-qualified undergraduate and graduate students who are nominated by their department/program chairs. The grant may be used for short-term research (one to two months) in Germany. The program is designed to encourage research and promote the study of cultural, political, historical, economic and social aspects of modern and contemporary German affairs from an inter- and multidisciplinary perspective.

May 3: Short-Term Research Grant

Short-Term Research Grants are awarded for 1-6 months to highly qualified candidates who have completed a Master’s degree or Diploma, or in exceptional cases a Bachelor’s degree at the latest by the time they begin their grant supported research, or those who have already completed a PhD (postdocs).

May 17: Research Stays (Faculty)

DAAD offers grants for one to three months in all academic disciplines to scholars at US and Canadian institutions of higher education to pursue research at universities, libraries, archives, institutes or laboratories in Germany. The aim of this particular program is to support short-term research stays and thus promote the exchange of experience and networking amongst colleagues. Grants are awarded for research and working projects and cannot be used for travel only. Airfare to Germany will not be covered and lecture tours, attendance at conferences or conventions, editorial meetings or extended guest professorships are not funded.
