Happy Women's History Month!
To kick off our month-long campaign bringing light to women's contributions to culture and society in Germany, we feature Angela Merkel. Of course we had to start off with Frau Merkel! She is possibly one of the most famous and influential German women today. Frau Merkel has served as the Chancellor of Germany for the past 15 years. She will step down later this year, marking the end of an era.

In observance of International Women's Day on Monday, March 8, 2021, the DAAD New York office will be closed.

Wort der Woche
Word of the Week

This month, the words we will be spotlighting for Wort der Woche will be related to Women's History Month! For the first word, we chose die Wahl, which has a few meanings such as "election" or also "choice." Our favorite compound word that contains Wahl is Superwahljahr or "super election year." Read about Germany's super election year in DW's article, linked below.
