Superbowl Sunday

On Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Philadelphia Eagles for the chance to take home the Lombardi Trophy in Superbowl LVII, but that won't be their last big game in 2023. Later this year, Kansas City will travel to Germany to play in one of two NFL games taking place in stadiums in Munich and Frankfurt.

The game is part of a larger effort to expand the league's popularity in Germany, which began with the NFL's inaugural game in Munich's Allianz Arena last year. Learn more about the game here.

Call for Nominations

DAAD Alumni Association USA Annual Awards

The DAAD Alumni Association USA is currently accepting nominations for two annual awards. The first is given annually to someone who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to academic and cultural exchange between Germany and the USA. The DAAD Alumni Association is also pleased to award the Mid-Career Professional Award for Accomplishments in International Education between the USA and Germany. Call for Applications

DAAD AI Networking Tour "Generative Models in Machine Learning"

Twice a year, DAAD selects a group of outstanding postdoctoral researchers and experienced PhD candidates worldwide to participate in the Postdoctoral Networking Tour in Artificial Intelligence (Postdoc-NeT-AI). The fellowship includes a Virtual Networking Week and a one-week travel stipend with plenty of opportunities to personally connect with leading researchers and research institutions from all over Germany. Fellows will also become part of the DAAD AInet Fellows and Alumni Network, thus expanding and strengthening the cooperation within the group and with the German research community. The tour will take place from April 24-28, 2023.

Postdoc Germany Workshop 2023

Join the DWIH New York to learn valuable information about research opportunities in Germany, such as available funding, potential research partners, and the latest developments. The workshop is for postdoctoral fellows and students currently pursuing a PhD who are looking for a networking opportunity to connect with other researchers and establish new collaborations. Additionally, attendees can gain a better understanding of the German research landscape and culture.

For Undergraduate Pell Grant Recipients

Gilman-DAAD Germany Scholarships

The Gilman-DAAD Germany Scholarship Program provides 40 additional scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students per year who are recipients of Federal Pell Grants to study and/or intern for academic credit in Germany through the Gilman Program. This deadline is for in-person programs or internships that begin between May 1, 2023 and April 30, 2024.

Information Tour

Germany Today

DAAD invites representatives from universities, research institutions and funding agencies in the United States and Canada, as well as colleagues from the fields of education policy and politics, to join us for our “Germany Today 2023” information tour. This year’s tour will focus on the cooperation of German universities with industry. The tour includes on-site visits to a variety of higher education institutions, research institutions, and companies in Bielefeld, the Ruhr Valley, Aachen, Düsseldorf, Cologne, and Bonn and will take place from June 11-17, 2023.

DAAD Post-Doctoral Fellows at the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) - Johns Hopkins University

The Paul H. Nitze School for Advanced International Studies (SAIS) is pleased to announce the opportunity for outstanding scholars to conduct research in Washington, D.C., on “The United States, Europe, and World Order.” During the academic year 2023-2024 up to two post-doctoral fellowships will be awarded for a ten (10) month period from September 1, 2023 to July 1, 2024. During the academic year 2023-2024 research and related activities will focus on “the roles of the United States and Germany at a crucial moment in world history.”

PlantACT! – Plants for Climate Action: Growing a Resilient Society

This event hosted by the University of Cologne New York Office with the UoC Cluster of Excellence on Plant Sciences CEPLAS and partners will promote the new European initiative “PlantACT! Plants for Climate Action” in the U.S. with a 2-day long experts’ workshop and a public panel discussion. These events will be organized in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of Germany to the UN, the German Consulate General New York, the German Center for Research and Innovation (DWIH) New York, and the German Research Foundation (DFG) North America.

Kim Petras Makes Grammy History

German-born, LA-based singer Kim Petras made history at last Sunday's Grammy Awards by becoming the first out trans woman to take home a Grammy in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category for her chart-topping collaboration with Sam Smith. Earlier this year, her and Smith also became the first transgender and nonbinary solo artists, respectively, to have a song reach the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
