Farewell to DAAD Secretary General Dr. Dorothea Rüland

"The End of an Era"

This month, DAAD will say goodbye to its longstanding Secretary General, Dr. Dorothea Rüland. For over four decades, Dr. Rüland has proudly represented DAAD on a global scale. Speaking at her virtual farewell, DAAD president Dr. Joybrato Mukherjee commented "For over ten years she has worked extremely successfully and with never-ending commitment to the internationalization of the German higher education system and Germany's reputation as an excellent location for study and research in the world. On behalf of all DAAD members and employees, all scholarship holders and alumni in Germany and around the world, I would like to thank Dorothea Rüland for this great achievement."

DAAD North America extends a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Rüland for her many decades of dedication to the work of DAAD and global higher education, and her support of transatlantic exchange and relations!

New Regional Office
DAAD Colombia Opens Branch Office in Colombia

The importance of northern South America as a region of origin for international students in Germany has grown significantly in recent years, and countries in the region have established themselves as cooperation partners for German universities. DAAD is taking these developments into account with its new branch in Bogotá, which opened this week. In addition to Colombia, the branch office assumes regional responsibility for Peru, Ecuador and Venezuela. Click below to read more (in German only).

Group Study Visit

This program offers financial support for subject-related academic visits to Germany organized by faculty members for groups of students. This program is open to all fields of study and is intended to both introduce students to facets of modern / contemporary German life and bring them into contact with their student peers in Germany. The next deadline is February 1, 2021 for support of visits scheduled to begin between June 1 and Sept. 1, 2021. For more information, please click on the link below.

German Studies Association Annual Conference

The German Studies Association will hold its 45th Annual Conference from 9/30 -10/3, 2021 in Indianapolis, IN. DAAD intends to contribute to the program through its sponsorship of seminars, panels, and round tables featuring DAAD German Studies Professors, the DAAD Centers for German and European studies, and other DAAD affiliated faculty and authors.
