Host an Intern from Germany

RISE Worldwide


Research groups, laboratories, and doctoral students in the United States are invited to apply to host motivated, well-qualified students from Germany as a part of the RISE Worldwide internship program. Interns will assist in research and lab work for the proposed project in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences, engineering, computer science, medicine, or a closely related field. DAAD scholarships will help coving living expenses and travel costs.

Gilman-DAAD Germany Scholarships


The Gilman-DAAD Germany Scholarship is a partnership between the U.S. Department of State's Benjamin A Gilman Scholarship Program and DAAD. DAAD will provide 40 additional scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students per year to study and/or intern for academic credit in Germany through the Gilman Program. The award allows students from accredited U.S. higher education institutions to strengthen their skills and expand their educational experiences while living and learning in Germany.

For Master's Studies in Germany

Study Scholarships


Highly qualified final-year undergraduate students or those who have received an undergraduate degree in any discipline may apply for the DAAD Study Scholarship for a full master’s degree program at a German university or for study at a German university as part of a postgraduate or master’s degree program completed in the home country.

For Projects Up to 12 Months

Research Grants in Germany


Research funding is available for highly qualified doctoral students in a US/Canadian program (or those who will be enrolled by the beginning of funding) interested in a research project in Germany for funding between 2 and 12 months, or those who have already completed a PhD (postdocs) for funding between 2 and 6 months. This program has replaced the previous Short-Term and One-Year Research Grants.

Doctoral Funding

Bi-nationally Supervised Doctoral Degrees / Cotutelle


These research grants are for doctoral candidates and young scientists and academics whose doctoral degrees are supervised both by a university teacher at the home university and an academic adviser at the host institute in Germany.

German Studies Research Grant


German Studies Research Grants are awarded for one to two months to highly qualified undergraduate and graduate students at US and Canadian universities nominated by the professor supervising their German studies-relevant research.

For Master's or PhD Students and Postdocs

ERA Fellowships - Green Hydrogen


This DAAD scholarship program supports German and international Master and PhD students as well as for Postdocs in any topics related to Green Hydrogen. Funded are study, research, or internships in Germany and around the world. The GH2 fellows will be integrated into international working groups with experts and DAAD alumni. The working groups cover the GH2 related topics: production, transport and infrastructure, market stimulation, cross-cutting issues. Additionally, participation in scientific conferences and other events may be funded.

Event for Young Researchers

Young Minds, Smart Machines: ChatGPT & Co in Your Research and Career


Join the German Center for Research and Innovation (DWIH) New York, German funding organizations DAAD and DFG and several German top research universities to learn about how to efficiently use AI and LLM to advance your career – and why you should make Germany a part of it. Young researchers from all academic disciplines are invited to this exciting evening at the German House in NYC featuring keynotes, university pitches, meetings with representatives of German universities, as well as drinks and snacks.

Opportunity for US College Graduates

IPS Scholarship


Each year, the German Bundestag, in cooperation with three major Berlin universities, invites up to 120 young university graduates from 50 countries to experience the German democratic system of governance during a five-month program in Berlin. Under the patronage of the President of the German Bundestag, the International Parliamentary Scholarship runs from March 1 to July 31, including a three-month placement in the office of a German parliamentarian.
