Imagine believing you've met your out-of-pocket maximum when you ordered your child's medication with the use of a patient assistance program. But when you order their next month’s prescription, the pharmacy states you must pay thousands of dollars before you can receive that next shipment. The insurance company implemented a Copay Accumulator Adjustment Program (CAAP) and accepted the patient assistance money but did not apply it to your deductible. Now, you are required to pay the entire deductible before your shipment can be released. There are no payment plans available. Moreover, the health plan receives twice or more the maximum out-of-pocket written for the policy, once or more by the assistance program, and once by the patient. This is one mom’s true story. Copay Accumulator Adjustments are happening in Maryland!Twenty-five percent of all Maryland insurance policies in Maryland are impacted by a copay accumulator. The biggest culprit in Maryland is United Healthcare.

HFM and the Maryland Make #Allcopayscount Coalition are fighting back, but we need your help! Contact your Maryland legislators today! Encourage your legislators to vote YES for SB595 and HB879 to make All Copays Count in Maryland! Send them the attached document for reference.

Thank You for Supporting HFM's Annual Meeting and Educational Dinner

Thank you to all who attended HFM's Annual Meeting and Family Educational Dinner on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the Westin BWI! A heartfelt thank you goes out to our AWESOME Johns Hopkins HTC team—Kim Drucis, Jennifer Keates, MD, and our new HTC nurse, Jax—for their invaluable presentation and support. The announcement of the new Women's clinic marks a significant advance for the Johns Hopkins HTC. Women's voices are being heard, and tangible progress is being made!

We extend another sincere thank you to our main event sponsor, CSL Behring. Krissy's presentation on "Doing your own Research and Taking it to your Medical Provider" was immensely relevant and engaging for patients.

We also extend a warm welcome to our new board members, Jennifer Marlatt, DNP, and Kimberly Rook, who have joined the HFM Team. Our board members are esteemed community volunteers who provide vital support and guidance to HFM at the highest level. Their dedication and time is deeply appreciated.

Thank you, Sanofi, for an inspiring Camp Ready Program on Saturday afternoon! Carrie Koenig, our dedicated Sanofi Rep and Hemo mom, shared invaluable insights from her experience sending her child to camp. Our current campers engaged in vibrant discussions about their own experiences, offering encouragement to those eligible but still feeling a bit timid about taking the leap. It was a heartwarming program, and witnessing our campers reconnect was truly special. Thank you again, Sanofi, for your support!

Remember the deadline to register your child for Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is 3/1. Contact HFM at info@hfmonline.org for more information.
