Celebrate New Public Art Piece, Pipe Dreams

Join a free community celebration on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Solano Park for the Best Trick & Skateboard Clinic. This event is a celebration of the unveiling of “Pipe Dreams” by artist team Haddad & Drugan. The team was inspired by legendary 1970s Arizona skate parks, drawing inspiration from water pipes and swimming pools. “Pipe Dreams” uses three steel pipes to create a portal, a place to chill, and a full pipe used for skateboarding. In partnership with 19 North, Cowtown Skateboards, Spinato’s, and City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation, the event will have cash for best tricks, skateboard clinics for all ages, music, food, and giveaways! | |
Artist + Researcher Exhibition
Now On Display at the Gallery @ City Hall

The Artist + Researcher Exhibition is a partnership between the Phoenix Bioscience Core Art Program and Phoenix Arts and Culture. The Artist + Researcher program (ARx)pairs local Phoenix artists with researchers and scientists from Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix, the Translational Genomics Research Institute and PBC biotech companies to transform the groundbreaking life science research on the PBC campus into various art mediums, including sculpture, painting, and digital. What emerged at the end are eight incredibly unique pieces of art.
The exhibition at the Gallery @ City Hall displays artwork from the first two cycles of the program. The gallery is located on the ground floor of City Hall, 200 W. Washington St. and is open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday starting December 2, 2024.
Please note: all visitors to Phoenix City Hall are required to have an appointment for service. Gallery access is limited to individuals who are visiting Phoenix City Hall as part of an approved appointment. However, visitors can ask to meet with the gallery attendants on Fridays to tour the exhibition.

Enjoy First Friday on December 6, 2024, at Burton Barr Central Library, from 6:00 to 8:00 [.m. for the opening reception of Louis Carlos Bernal: Retrospectivita, an eight-week-long pop-up exhibition. Come celebrate with us and enjoy a live DJ Cervantes, an exhibition tour, and a zine-making activity!
Born in Mexico City and raised in “La Finiquera,” DJ Cervantes started DJing in 2011 at The Filmbar with a laptop, an audio-to-phono cable and the drive to curate musical experiences. Thirteen years later, he has expanded not only his equipment but also his style. He is known around the valley for his eclectic collection of music that transcends generations.
Retrospectivita is a smaller version of the retrospective exhibition on view at the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson. It will travel across Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas through March 2025, visiting cities with personal or professional connections to Bernal. Admission is free.

LABOR Presenta: EL MUNDO ES UN BARRIO

EL MUNDO ES UN BARRIO is an arts and culture site for communion and exchange. It's a free event on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is open to all ages, featuring the works of ten Maryvale artists, including Carlos Miramontes, James Anthony Morales, Miguel Monzón, Mariela Medina, Gabriel Sebastian Valente Monroy, Lorena Nevárez, Carlos Nevárez, Angel Natera, Cristal Rodriguez, and Karen Torres Breceda exhibiting installations reminiscent of the swap meets that have been and continue to be a crucial thread to the fabric of our community.
The event will also have food vendors who are or have been present in Maryvale, music, entertainment, and information on local community engagement.
LABOR is a multidisciplinary collective with artists from Maryvale working in partnership with Phoenix Arts and Culture and supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.

The S'edav Va'aki Museum Foundation presents an Indian Market on December 14-15, 2024. This two-day event at the Museum features over 100 top Native American artists vending items such as paintings, sculptures, jewelry, baskets and more.
The Ki:him (village) hosts hands-on learning in beading, gourd art, weaving, pottery, hoop dancing, and other activities suitable for all ages. Visitors can also enjoy music, dance performances, the Young Artist Market and traditional Native American Foods.
Regular Admission price: $10
Native American, Military, First Responders: $5
Free entrance is available to S’edav Va’aki Museum Foundation members and children twelve and below.

The City of Youth and Education Office will accept applications for the 2025 Outstanding Phoenix Youth Leader of the Year awards beginning December 30, 2024. This special award honors the outstanding achievements of young people, enhancing the perception of youth and raising community awareness of their positive contributions. Two overall students will be selected to receive a $3,000 scholarship and free admission to a summer leadership camp. | |

With the substantial growth and change in the community over the years, an updated Master Plan is essential for the future of Phoenix and its 1.7 million residents.
