The watercolor insects shown above draw inspiration from the work of Eric Carle. As a related learning experience, our Pre-K students explored the fascinating world of insects, focusing on their key characteristics: three distinct body parts, six legs, and the presence of wings in some species.
For this project, students were given the creative freedom to select pre-cut tissue paper body segments, each adorned with diverse painted patterns. While adhering to the scientific accuracy of three body parts, they could choose whether or not to add wings to their unique creations. Using Mod Podge, the students attached their chosen segments to paper. Once dry, they finalized their insects by drawing on the essential six legs and antennae, bringing their colorful, patterned bugs to life.
