Women In Recovery

On October 10, the Women in Recovery Lunch on at  The Alcove Restaurant & Lounge included hearing from the Naomi’s House Manager, Nadine. Nadine shared her gratitude to Women United for the time and care put into preparing the Women’s Recovery House, a bit of her story leading to managing the house, and her experience in the house thus far.

Our Recovery speaker for the day was Shannon, who shared her intensely emotional journey. Her long-time connection to the Freedom Center is an example of perseverance. We wish her and all of our friends in Recovery the best.

Back Packs of Hope

Thank you Women United for choosing to support the Lifepoint Church - Mount Vernon 's backpacks of hope program. Backpacks of Hope provides weekend meals to children in kindergarten through grade 5 who may be going hungry on weekends. For some students their Friday noon meal at school is the last meal they might eat until they return back to school for Monday morning breakfast.
This year, Backpacks of Hope serves 76 children each week at 3 Schools, including Dan Emmett Elementary School , Columbia Elementary and East Elementary School . Over 500 service hours each year are required for administration, purchasing, packing, delivery of bags, pickup of containers, providing notes of encouragement, consulting with a professional dietitian, among other tasks.
Thank you ladies for helping make this program possible.

Women United Grant Update:
Awareness Events

Women United was proud to play a small part in making the Knox Knows More Awareness Events possible. New Directions hosted these events to bring awareness to our community during Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October.

Free community events included speakers from New Directions, local courts, law enforcement, and survivors of domestic violence. A local news outlet shared one of the events. This grant will help host more events in April - information can be found on Facebook.
ROX on the Road

Our program director attended the ROX annual Girls without Limits event, hosted in New Albany Ohio in late September. The event promoted the Ruling Our eXperiences program, shared testimonials from ROX girls, and raised funds for program participants across the United States. The event highlighted how lucky Knox County is that the Women United ladies choose to support ROX through Women United grant funds. Thank you to all of the ladies who help make this program available to girls in Knox County.

ROX staff also went on the road this fall. Representatives from ROX headquarters traveled to Knox County to meet with our local program facilitators. The group hosted a Happy Hour in October at Stein Brewing Company.
