Women United
An affinity group of United Way of Knox County, Ohio
 January -March 2022 Newsletter
This year, in 2022, the United Way has ended the categorized fee structure. We would rather engage more women in Women United and feel that keeping it affordable is a move in the right direction. So, in 2022, your dues will be $50.00. This will enable us to purchase supplies we use for our projects as well as welcome more ladies to join us and see how wonderful it feels to participate in our events, network with other professional women and watch how our dollars change lives in Knox County. If you are financially able to give more than $50.00 a year, we encourage you to do so. It will allow us to serve more women and children as we purchase more items for our projects.
Women In Recovery Luncheon

Women United is back!
After a long covid hiatus, the ladies of Women United kicked off 2022 with an inspiring personal story from Nichole Riverside Recovery Services - Knox County at our Women's Recovery Luncheon, Thursday at the The Alcove Restaurant & Lounge
After Lunch the ladies also packed over 200 Period Care kits for girls, to be shared with Knox County elementary and high schools.
The period kit project was started by Julia Sugg. She received a Women United Grant to purchase the supplies for us to start make the kits during our WU Luncheon yesterday.
Julia has done research around Knox County and found that most organizations were meeting the need of the individuals they serve, but the schools did not have consistent availability for students. There are resources for adults but not nearly enough for student-age girls. “It may not seem like an emergency issue, but the education of local girls is being affected by their lack of access to comfortable/safe period products. "In a national survey of 1,000 menstruating teens, 1 in 5 struggled to afford period products and 4 in 5 either missed or knew someone who missed class time because they did not have access to period products."

EmpowerHER

March 8, 2022, was a special day for ladies of Women United as they were honored to be a sponsor of New Direction’s First Annual EmpowHER Event, on International Women’s Day. The event brought Knox County women together in a colorful, inspiring, and uplifting atmosphere. Guests shopped with local female-owned businesses, enjoyed the signature “MargHERita” and shared stories about women who inspire them most. Women United sponsored one of the two Girl Power Scholarship awards, which went to two High School Seniors, both of whom submitted their reflections on how they use their girl power to influence other girls. Well done New Directions!

Organizations and volunteers will utilize the tool for free under one United Way of Knox County Ohio, Inc. agreement. Contact United Way of Knox County Ohio, Inc. office for more information!
