Cameron's Corner

Dear Friends,

In October 2021, I had the opportunity to travel to Jacksonville Beach, Florida for CREDO, a week for pastoral renewal sponsored by the PC(USA) Board of Pensions. It was amazing! With Covid shutdowns still in place, the conference was virtual, so I was able to choose my own destination: a beachfront condo where I could watch the sunrise each morning. This particular image from my trip reminds me of the psalmist’s call for all creation to praise God. The sea oats appear to be lifting their arms in thanksgiving for the warm morning sun peeking over the horizon as the waves crash like cymbals and the birds sing. This Sunday, we will study Psalm 145 and consider the power of praise in our own lives of faith. I hope you’ll join us!

In Christ,

Rev. Cameron Smith

Thornwell Emphasis Month – Lighting the Way to Jesus

Thornwell Emphasis Month represents a long-standing tradition of faithful friends who generously advocate for Thornwell and bring awareness to the needs that exist within our communities.

YPPC has been a “faithful friend” of Thornwell for many years. During this month, we will share a video Minute for Mission each Sunday during Fellowship.

Please to take a minute to watch this week’s video (button below) which focuses on “Family Takes All of Us”.

We will collect a special offering for Thornwell on November 20th.

A NEW YEAR IS COMING!

Our current Christian year will conclude with Christ Our King Sunday on November 20, 2022, and a new Christian year will begin with the first Sunday of Advent on November 27, 2022.

During worship on Sunday, November 20, we will share the Lord’s Supper as we celebrate our Servant King. After worship, we will prepare to welcome the New Christian Year during fellowship as we decorate the sanctuary for Advent. Everyone is invited to enjoy a pizza lunch and help deck the halls together.

Worship is the work of the people. If you would like to participate in worship in the choir, as a guest musician, or by commissioning flower arrangements, please contact the church office.

Growing Disciples

HOSTS FOR FELLOWSHIP NEEDED NOVEMBER 13 AND DECEMBER 11

When one of our YPPC Committees doesn’t sponsor a special meal, we gather following worship for light snacks and fellowship provided by our YPPC members. Congregational Ministries furnishes all the paper products, lemonade, and serving ware. Please sign up on the Fellowship calendar in Memorial Hall if you are able to help with this ministry or contact yppclynn@bellsouth.net.

HELP PRESERVE YPPC HISTORY!

We are working to record our church history so that it can be preserved for generations to come. If you would like to help sort photos and other historical documents, please contact Martha Trussell.

Meeting Human Needs

Journey is the Charleston Atlantic Presbytery’s campus ministry that serves The Citadel and the College of Charleston.

On Monday night, November 28, Outreach and Missions will provide dinner for the Cadets at The Citadel. We will serve dinner, share a meal with the Cadets, and participate in worship and Bible study with them. We will meet at the church at 5:30 PM and carpool.

If you are interested in attending this time of worship with the Cadets, please sign up in the Fellowship Hall.

QUARTERS FOR VETS

On the first Sunday of each month, we are reminded of the need to help the Veterans at Patriot Villas with quarters for laundry. The bright orange collection box is in the Fellowship Hall.

Food Pantry Needs for November

A new list of items needed to fill the Christmas Food Boxes will be listed each week. We will fill at least 24 boxes for our pantry families. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Updates from the Session

STEWARDSHIP UPDATE

As of last Sunday, 43 YPPC households have turned in pledge cards so that we can “step out in faith in 2023.” Thus far, we have $208,880.00 pledged for the General Offering and $22,320.00 pledged for the Building Fund. In addition, members turned in their “Time and Talents” pledged cards, and those names will be passed along to our committee moderators.

Thank you to everyone who has pledged time, talent, and treasures so far. If you have not yet turned in your pledge cards, please do so as soon as possible so that the session can make plans for next year’s budget. If you need a pledge packet, please contact the church office.
