Cameron's Corner

Dear Friends,

I am always delighted when Mother Nature surprises us with her wild ways despite our efforts to control her and put her in a box. It has been at least two years since I planted violas in my window boxes along with dusty miller and snapdragons. While I have changed out the annuals almost every season since then, these determined, sunshiny faces keep popping back up and surprising me from soil that seems dry and dead.

On Sunday, we will look at the conclusion of 1 Peter, in which the Apostle encouraged the letter’s recipients to hold onto their eternal hope in Christ even in the face of “fiery trials” and suffering. Like these determined violas, he calls them to put down deep roots of faith that can withstand life’s struggles, trusting in God to sustain them and holding fast to one another. I hope you’ll join us as we celebrate the hope of those Christians long ago and consider how it is still our hope today.

In Christ,

Rev. Cameron Smith

The Second Floor Renovation of the Youth and Ministries Building is Almost Complete!

Over the past few months, members of the Buildings and Grounds Committee have been hard at work creating a new and welcoming space for children and youth in the space above the Montessori School. Plan to join us for a Rededication Ceremony of this new space on Sunday, June 4 during Fellowship.

If you are available to help us put the final touches on the space, please contact Rev. Cameron Smith to coordinate.

Children’s Summer Sunday School…

will begin on Sunday, June 11. To give our regular teachers a break, we need volunteers to teach one 10 to 15-minute prepared lesson each week. The theme this summer will be “The Fruits of the Spirit.” Each week one of the Fruits of the Spirit will be the focus as well as a memory verse. There is a sign-up sheet in the Fellowship Hall. Please consider helping for just one Sunday and get to know these wonderful children. We will be using the newly renovated upstairs of the Youth and Ministries Buiding for their classes.

Meeting Human Needs

2023 Mother's Day Offering Update

Thank you for opening your hearts and giving so generously to support residents at the Presbyterian Communities of SC (PCSC) who need financial assistance. We collected $1,380.

PCSC’s Charitable Care Fund provides an average of $1.2 million in charitable care each year, thanks to all the gifts from Presbyterian churches throughout our state.

Donating blood is a gift of life. Make a difference this year and come to give this Wednesday, May 24 (11:00-3:00) and receive a Red Cross Beach Towel, a box of Girl Scout Cookies, and be entered in a chance drawing to win a trip for two to the 2023 MLB All Star Game in Seattle. (Package includes two tickets, round-trip airfare, four-night hotel accommodations, a $750 gift card and more.)

Sign-up to donate this Sunday. Brandon Kenney, Account Executive of Donor Services at the American Red Cross, will be on hand and can answer any questions you may have.

$117 in quarters were given to Patriot Villas last week to help Veterans with the cost of doing their laundry. Each load costs $7.50 or 30 quarters!

Thank you for your continuing support of the Veterans!

Food Pantry News...

Over 80 boxes of cereal were donated in April! Our pantry shelves are now overflowing. (There is also a shelf filled with cereal in the cabinet!) Thank you for making it possible to give each pantry family at least two boxes of cereal this month.
